Ragdolls are in Overgrowth now! For those who have pre-ordered, you can summon any number of ragdolls by pressing ‘r’, and you can throw them around with right-click. They have some pretty cool features, such as smooth sleep transitions, static and dynamic joint friction, aggregated impact detection, and efficient subspace hashing. I can talk about these in a technical post later — for now I would like to just show you a cool video I made while stress testing ragdolls.
We haven’t created the physics editor yet, so I had to manually code all of the body parts and constraints. Once we have the editor, I can make these ragdolls a lot more realistic, and attach them to our character models! For now I’ve also started working on ways to create ‘active’ ragdolls — characters that are physically simulated, but not totally passive.
Do you guys have any other ideas on how we can improve our passive ragdoll simulation? Physics objects in games often feel floaty and insubstantial, and I would like to do whatever I can to make Overgrowth physics feel heavy and substantial.

That's awesome! Some of the shots looked like nijas falling of buildings! Or fighting in mid-air! :D
Wow, there are so many of them. Cool.
that was soo cool! nice job! "i see ragdolls"
This keeps looking better and better, it must be fun developing this engine and showing it off :)
Nooo what have you done... My Family and friends Nooooooo why why did they have to die WHY
no really thought that's really nice ragdolls i love how they still take effect laying overa already "dead" body"
keep the good work up!!!
Evil. Hit sounds make me think of bones snapping.
Looking great.
Holy crap, on what configuration you're running this ? There's over 200 ragdolls and no stuttering, at all.
We can get so many ragdolls because they intelligently go to sleep. Basically, if they land in a stable position and are not touched for a while, we assume that they are not going to be moving anymore and we treat them as normal objects. If an active ragdoll comes close to them, they are seamlessly "woken up". This allows us to have huge amounts of ragdolls without using too much CPU power.
Clever.
A whole video of ragdolls falling off objects and breaking their limbs? Man, that's awesome.
Nifty, will the rabbit ears ragdoll too?
Yup :) We actually have a separate model for simulating the ears that we should show soon.
Attack of the marshmallow men!! Run for your lives!!
I love the final zooming out shot with the ragdolls strewn about the landscape. When I finally get the money to spare...Hello pre-order.
will this be a free game
No.
I gotta admit after hearing the games theme played in all it's videos over and over I'm starting to like it. Is there any free mp3 for it?
*EDIT* OH wait, never mind I think I found it.
Also, game is looking good. I'm not much for playing as animals but, I'll be sure to give it a try at one point in time.
Why care about who you play as long as you don't roleplay? :D
Looks very realistic even without the physics editor,Good Job!
