Don't worry about it being the first mission you've made, I was pretty terrible in the beginning (to say the least), but with time, practice and the help of the editor guide, things will very quickly get easier. As for mission editor (program:1.0.2.0, load:0.59) included in the DVD, I have the following problems right now.
1. I can't find any explanation for "reconPoint" (create >systems >mission >triggers events...) in the help file. How can I use it?
2. LiveLink never works. It only works as normal "test mission" mode.
