Enter the small town of Roland only to discover that the town is being over-run by... zombies!
DM Notes for Zombie Town
ZOmbie Town.. I don't know, maybe my brain just burnt out after coming up with the storyline. Worst named module ever?
Anyway, here's the basic storyline:
Players enter the small town of Roland only to discover that the town is being over-run by.. zombies! Hey, at least the title of the module is honest. Talking to several NPCs should direct the players over to Marcus, who will give the players a quest to stop the undead uprising which he claims is coming from a tomb to the north.
Once inside the tomb players will come across a mysterious ghost that will inform them that Marcus and his tomb robbing miners are the real cause of the unrest. When confronted, Marcus will attack the players. Once Marcus is dead, the players can return to the mysterious ghost and complete the quest getting an xp reward and a diamond as a gift for their services. She will tell the party that any remaining zombies must still be destroyed, but no others will arise to take their place.
A few behind the scenes notes:
Marcus has the plot flag set on him until the players speak to the mysterious ghost about stopping the undead, then the plot flag is removed. This means that Marcus cannot just be bumped off before the truth about his activities is learned.
Because this module is story driven, it works best with a group of dedicated players who work together. A password protected game among known companions is probably best because late comers will not know what is going on or may interfere with others who are trying to complete the quest.
This module is intended for levels 1-4 or could be played single player by a level 5. Because the players involved are low level, I left out any death penalties. Resourceful DMs are free to script them in if they require or I might entertain pleas from DMs who want me to do it.
Feel free to customize the module to your liking, I just ask that I receive some credit for my work.
This module has a few very nice scripts, including one which creates a ghast when a coffin is opened. Feel free to use them in other modules, again just give me a little credit.
