Greetings and happy holidays from the NNK team!

It's been a great journey for us, the NNK team, to create such an unimaginable project on such an old engine. And it's been great to have an awesome fan-base to support us. So we wanted to bless you with an update many of you have been waiting for: the NNK taijutsu or melee system.

To refresh, we have three main staples of our gameplay which include weapons (#2-0 or mouse scroll), the jutsu system (holding shift and inputting a combination of WASD keys), and melee (which will use the #1 slot). The vision we had for gameplay for a Naruto mod was to incorporate weapons, jutsus, and melee balanced, evenly, easy to access, and easy to execute any system at any given time. Being able to mouse scroll between your weapons and melee, and perform jutsu techniques on the spot makes it very easy to perform, yet leaves great flexibility to outsmart your opponent if you're a better ninja. Our combat system is simple yet requires skills to master.

The current melee system that we will implement in our first release sets our foundation, where we can build upon special attacks or combos from it. So let's dive into greater detail of our skeleton melee system.

The primary attack button (default left mouse button or LMB) will allow your character to perform a flurry of attacks, up to 5 per combo. You can either click or hold up to 5 hits, where the 5th hit will send your opponent sliding back.

The secondary attack button (default right mouse button or RMB) has two functions. Clicking it will hit your opponent, knocking them backwards quite a distance. Charging it will knock your opponent towards the air, where they will be stunned for a bit mid-air. This will allow you to jump in the air and will give you a few options, such as throwing weapons or performing a jutsu if you're fast enough. Also, you'll be able to perform an air-combo if you can connect a primary attack combo mid-air.

Tapping both the LMB and RMB will enable you to grapple and throw your opponenet in a given direction.

XD's Naruto411.com mirror
There is also a Youtube version available here.

There are also a few features that you may see such as the Oiroke no Jutsu, our Kawarimi Jutsu, and a few others.

Take note of the many work-in-progress things you see in the video. We have a beautiful map created by DJ-Ready, and the great melee fx and graphical features programmed by Ryokeen. Great textures by SV, and great animations combined from a number of our teammates such as SV, Keiha, Darktooth, G0dGundam, Lord Killmore. As well as the great models and textures created by Kama, Sven da Man, Eclipse, SV. All of the NNK team works very hard to bring such a high quality project to you the fans.

We hoped you enjoyed this big update and will keep coming back for more. If you feel like you can contribute great animations or code, also feel free to apply within our forums. Also note we will continue with our weekly updates starting again on January 2nd, 2009, so we wish everyone a happy holiday and a happy new years and see you all again with new updates in 2009!
