Umm, it's merely a rectangular prism. Seriously, dude?
1. Make a cube and size it to make it slim.
2. Duplicate that cube 3 more times and put them together to make a square form.
3. Then put a cube at the bottom of all 4 cubes.
4. Make one last cube and put at the top and that should be the lid.
5. You now have a mystery box that you'll be able to open,close, and whatever you want to use the mystery box for.
I would make a better tutorial, but I'm busy with school and my own game.

Would be more like, make a box, selct the top face, insert, extrude inwards, then make another box for the lid. (and uv unwrap) Done.
The way your saying to do it would have extra uneeded faces, sounds more like a worldcraft guide.
As for this model its just a box.
