Step 1:
Download the US patch here: Moddb.com.
English (UK) version: Moddb.com
French version: Moddb.com
Step 2:
If you don't have the original Rings.exe execute file, download it here:
and paste it into your gamefolder (making a backup is never a bad idea).
Step 3:
If you have an english version of the game but not the US release. You need to replace a few files first with these:
Step 4:
The gamefolder needs to be organized correctly. The path should read exactly: "C:\Program Files\Liquid Entertainment\War of the Ring(tm)". If it doesn't, fix it.
Step 5:
Now you should be able to run the patch without any problems. I recommend right-clicking it and choosing "Run as Admin".
Step 6 (optional, but recommended):
Get the widescreen-hacked Rings.exe for 1.01.0011 only:
and paste it into your gamefolder (making a backup is never a bad idea).
Step 6: Enjoy!
Tips and Tricks:
Here's a little trick for you who needs to choose your desired resolution everytime you start up the game:
First, make sure you have applied your desired resolution at least once.
And now, everytime you start up the game, just simply click Options -> OK. It will set your desired res for you. This skips the hassle of choosing a resolution everytime you start the game.
Hi, I'm trying to patch WotR at the moment, I'm making sure the path is correct but every time the patching installer gets to 31% I recieve the error 'Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match.'.
Any idea how I can sort this?
Hi! I refer you to Step two - You need the real original Rings.exe.
I have the offical disk and when that failed I downloaded the rings.exe as suggested but the same happens.
Which region does your disc belong to? The patches I've seen online are US and French.

Ah, good to hear! I have a trick for you:
First, make sure you have applied your desired resolution at least once.
And now, everytime you boot up the game, just simply click Options->OK. It will set your res for you. This skips the hassle of choosing a resolution everytime you start the game.
is there no other solution but to choose ok every time we enter the game?
No, nothing that I've found yet. We would need more hackers in the WOTR community to fix this.
guys, can somebody help me?, i followed all the steps but the resolution switches back to 1280x720, 16 bit as soon as i restart the game
It's normal. Look at my tips at the bottom line.

We have discovered a new fix for people having trouble patching the game. It's because people tried patching their UK version with the US patch. But there's a quick fix for that now.
how to enhance population in WOTR ? 100 is very few i think.
You can use my Trainer for that. My mod has 250 pop limit.

I keep getting a minidump error after a few minutes of playing - any ideas? Thanks :)
Is it the "an exception has occured"? It's quite normal for mods, but not for a few minutes in to the game. It could be some programming error by the modder.
Hi! I get the same error, though it pops up at the very beginning, just after I click on Good/Evil Campaign button :( I've got the updated US version from war.videogames101.net
I think we solved this problem by running the game with administrator rights. Right click game and choose "run as administrator". Also, try compatibility modes with Windows XP.
If it that doesn't work, try making a new player profile or get someone else's player profile.
Worked like a charm, thank you!
Thank you so much, everyone. Only problem is the game won't save, but it was worth it just to play again.
Check out the other troubleshooting tutorial I made for this game.
Anyone want to try playing this game together? Maybe we can build a small community around it and have some fun!

Hi I have the Italian version of the game so the patch won't necessarily work but, when I run it, it always blocks at 75% with the Setup.ini file. I tried to move and rename the folder as indicated but it didn't work for me. Can anyone help or have the italian patch .exe? Tx
