Thanks to a direct link that was provided to the widescreen modded file, I've since been able to play the game – which works fine, both Tutorial and the Good/Evil Campaigns. That was great for me, as the old CD version wouldn't let me install it at all but just kept trying to remove a previous installation. Anyway, I don't know why they don't update the link on that site. It's not the best LOR game out there, but it still has its merits and is quite fun to play.
Here's how you patch it...
1. You'll need the ORIGINAL Rings.exe in your gamefolder. Get it here: Forums.videogames101.net
2. You'll have to make sure that the gamefolder path reads EXACTLY "C:\Program Files\Liquid Entertainment\War of the Ring(tm)". If it doesn't, just move around temporarily.
3. Run the patcher.
4. Done. Now you can use the widescreen+no-CD hack.

Thanks a lot, this worked! I didn't need to follow 2nd but the key was getting the original Rings.exe to be able to update and then use WS nocd crack.
Good to see! :) Well, maybe it has to be where you originally installed it first. It's probably written in the Windows registry.

I have the same problem. I cant install the patch. at 31% an error appears saying that an old file has not been found
I wonder if that's an error related to what regional version you have of the game. This patch is for the US-version. Or maybe this happens for Windows 8+ users.
Try running the patch as administrator.

Hi there, I'm trying to install the patch, but when I reach 31% installation, I'm getting en error when the patch is trying to read the EULA text file and is saying that the contents are not matching. I have an original physical copy of the game, and the region is on UK/EU. PalMz17 , is it possible if you could send me your EULA.txt
file? Maybe, this will fix the issue.
EDIT: Managed to finally install the patch! For those that are experiencing the error/s when trying to install the patch, is because of the type of English that has been used on localisation as Palmz has mentioned. You need to replace 3 files in your WOTR installation which are: EULA.txt , Register.url and Text.H20, here's a link to these files that hopefully should let you install the patch.
