We have finally released the promised video showing up the planetary terrain engine with seamless landing / take off. This video is a 4 minutes long and shows the latest status of the Infinity engine. This is a major step in the project. A lot still has to be done, of course, but we are going to focus on the user interface and gameplay, and will develop in parallel other features for the 3D engine ( volumetric clouds, reflective water, vegetation ).

I like space things, it's nice to see something as nice and detailed.
That just rocks, if only to shot down Derek Smarts argument over seamless planet transition. Can't be done my ***, my 486 was doing it with Frontier First Encounters.
I can't wait to explore Infinity.
Looks sweet, hope my new computer gets here this xmas, then i'll have something to look forward to! :D 100 billion planets, wow!
That's some damn impressive technology, but the planet seems way too small and the atmosphere way too thin. Will they be like that in the final game?
Looks very interesting. I hope that this project won't die ;)
Thanks!
The size of the planet is possible in real-life and everything is scaled as realistic as possible.
Keep in mind those things are still WIP and we still have to work atleast 2 years on Infinity.
Wow dude, I checked the video, nothing short of amazing.
That was pretty amazing. Finally seamless planetary landings like in the good old days!
What kind of other details, such as buildings, will you be able to put on the planets? Or will there not be any detail such as that?
that is incredible, congratulations on a fantastic technology
The game will have more than 100 billion planets, we are going to do everything we can to make every planet exciting to visit and explore.
You will be able to find citys, forests, primitive alien life forms, volumetric clouds, weather and storm effects,...
An early test for example shows its possible to generate hundrets of trees:

This screenshot is very old and was only a test, its nothing compaired of what the final version of Infinity will like like!
ok this is amazing...
i've always wanted to play a game where i can really travel from planet to planet...
just awesome...
Thanks :D, all credits go to Brebion(aka InfinityAdmin).
In all the recent space games it wasn't possible to land on planets in real-time, our vision is to make that possible again with the next-gen game Infinity. We try to make a games that all the Elite fans have been waiting for for years.
Simply amazing, voting for infinity now.
very nice
very very very nice, althought I'm not sure about the stars to be honest, seems to "twinkle-ly?"
Have you played Masters of Orion Betelgeuze? If you havnt you should check it out. That game rocked. This offers a wicked opportunity for some classic Masters gameplay in a massive 3D realtime environment! MoO involves much that you talk about in the FAQ, managing science and tech, trading, fleet battles, politics, et cetera.
I look foward to seeing more progress reports. So far this look beautiful, i hope the gameplay can match teh aesthetics!
Merry Xmas All.
the engine is amazing cudos to the coder
thanks again!
@Pvtbones: Most of the 'twinkling' is because of the video, but the stars will also twinkel a little in-game because every star is only 1 pixel.
@NzMM: No I havent played MoO but ive played a lot of other space games. The Elite games are our biggest inspiration.
