Two journalists, Sue Bergman and Ron Ashman, work for a Los Angeles newspaper called The Quill but dislike each other and are bitter rivals. When the Quill editor tells Ron about a "Monsters' Ball" — a social event where all the Hollywood movie monsters have a big party at the mansion of Otto Hanover, and when the editor stresses the Quell must cover the event because it is too important to miss, Ron is initially skeptical about going - that is, until Sue comes in and forces both to proclaim to be the best reporter for the job, finally compelling both journalists to attend the event...
