Episode One follows scientist Gordon Freeman and his companion Alyx Vance as they fight in humanity's continuing struggle against the transhuman race known as the Combine. When the story begins, Gordon wakes up outside the enemy's base of operations, the Citadel, after being left unconscious from the concluding events of Half-Life 2. During the course of the game, Gordon travels with Alyx as they attempt to evacuate the city.
The Sprucecape Map Pack is a drama/thriller based single-player map pack for Half-Life 2 Episode 1. You take the role of John, who is about to have the most challenging and fearsome journey of his life, trough the rough Point Spruce, Alaska.
Hey guys! If you have played the Map Pack, it would be awesome if you'd tell your feelings about it or at least rate it :)
That looks beautiful, I have to give it a go.
Well thanks a lot! I hope you enjoy it :D
:D I love this map pack!
Hey thanks pal!
pssh map pack goddamn something like this... NEEDS TO BE A FULL MOD :D
Well thank you! It sure would be if I was more skillful :D Did you like it?
You really should turn it into one, as most people don't want to mess up their default folders just for a map pack. Creating a mod for Episode 1 is impossible for end users because Valve screwed up the Source sdk.
How is this messing up the folders? Yeah this'd make a wonderful mod, I'd use the Ep2 engine, the problem is just lack of my modding skills :(
The stuff added by map packs can be confusing to delete if it includes more then maps, so players will end up deleting stuff that will give their own model replacements the old black and pink squares.
You don't need Ep2 for this, but you can just cut and paste the Episode 1 gameinfo.text file into a folder in the Source mods section.
That's true. Okay and what would that do?
I kinda cheated by copying another mod for this, but the game should play as normal without any errors with just the proper search paths in gameinfo.txt
I've just finished playing it and i have to say: I loved it! The maps were very well designed, the puzzles were logical, the battles were fair and the maps were one of the first to actually make me jump (the ambush on the third map did that). Ontop of all of that the use of music to set the scene, and the final part on top of the cliff face were very touching. I gave this map pack 10/10, one of my favorites. You should really turn it into a mod mate.
It would be great to see some more of your work guys, particularly another Sprucecape adventure hehe.
Thank you A LOT, it's awesome to hear something like that :) This sure could make a good mod, I'd just need some help with that. I'm looking forward to create something new, even better! Sequel really doesn't sound so bad :D
I enjoyed this mod quite a bit. The puzzles were a bit tedious at times, but the map pack was great overall. I really loved the story.
You should really package this as a mod and re-upload, you could get more people to see it and people could post reviews easier.
Also, I'd love to see a sequel too :D.
Great to hear that! :)
I agree, if I could get some help, I'd do that in no time.
Sequel is under planning, but it's still just a dream :D
hey after i type map SpruceCape its crashing , i dont have the steam version of the orange box , just the store version etc..can anyone help?
These maps are awesome! :) I enjoyed every minute I played this map pack.
I agree with the others, you should so definitely make a mod :D
Thanks! When the time comes, I will :)
Also, if you made it into a mod, more people would no about it. A lot of people troll the mods section looking for things to play, so you would get heaps of downloads.
I agree, but still, I need help with the process.
Just finished listening to your interview on planetphillip and it made me play the mappack again and I have to say once more: I really love this! I really look forward to any further projects...
It is great to hear that, thanks. I'm looking forward to them too and me and Aleksi got lots of ideas already. Be sure to follow my blog and stuff, I'll be updating everything once in a while!
First 1/2 of this mod is super awesome. I cant say the same about the second part, because i cant reach it. I wasted almost 2 hour trying to find a fuel for the car. Then i commited a crime - i turned noclip and mat_wireframe on trying to find it x[
Where it is ?
Yeah, i did it ! Well, now i can say all i think about this mod.
I think for this mod 4 of 5 will be a perfect rating. It have some optimisation problems (at the second map i had fps drops down to 10-15), level design is also somewhere around 4 of 5.
This mod have one big advantage - it's really atmospheric. You can feel like you are actually there. It looks like after the combine invasion Alaska became abandoned, you can actually feel it.
So, thank you for this mod. If i do not take into account the fact that I spent 2 hours, trying to find this fuel canister, i really enjoyed this mod. This is one of my favorites.
Nice job, was fun and well paced. Challenging enough to be fun without being too frustrating. First two maps had lots of nice details and good mood. Last map was lot of fun (driving around junk yard). Who do we see at the end? ... poor John. In a world of combine-zombie horror shouldn't being a philosopher makes as much sense as anything else? Watch that last jump (Would fall to death repeatedly again XD ) Overall, very solid stuff. Thanks!
