Description

WIP Screenshot of the new track Orangutan Cove, showcasing new way of doing guardrails. The method keeps the meshes' profile and thus the texture vertical despite the rail itself following a curve in Blender. This way the odd looking effect of having the posts of the guardrails and fences tilted in uphill and downhill sections of the track is avoided. The method involves combining of shrinkwrap modifiers with curve and array modifiers in blender. (The same effect could be fairly easily achieved via scripting in Unity, by deforming (or generating) the rails along a curve and then raycasting from each vertex downwards to place on the ground relative to their original positions in the mesh. However after prototyping such solution, I found placing the rails and fences in Blender to be more convenient and controllable).
