A multi-OS rhythm game, written in Python, similar to Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Play guitar, bass or drums along with your favorite songs on your computer using either your keyboard or instruments. You can use your Guitar Hero or Rock Band instrument controllers. Separated audio tracks will mute when you fail to hit or sustain the required notes correctly to simulate a real concert-playing experience. Rock on, FoFiX doesn't require the original Frets on Fire to play, as it's a standalone-mod.

Introduction

Do you own a Guitar Hero or Rock Band controller for the PS2, PS3, Wii or Xbox 360? Are you wondering how to get it to work? Then you're at the right place!

Microsoft Windows

PS3

Works right out of the box - just plug it in. It uses the standard joystick driver that is part of Windows.

Xbox 360

Works right out of the box - just plug it in. The driver is included in Windows.

PS2

Any PS2 to USB adapter will do. Plug it in and it will go. Beware though, that most will not work with the whammy bar, as the guitar controller has no "analog" button.

Wii

Rock Band Wii instruments should work right out of the box - just plug it in. However Guitar Hero 3/World Tour instruments communicate via the Wiimote and require a compatible bluetooth receiver on your computer (see a list of compatible bluetooth devices here) and GlovePIE.

  • Download GlovePIE 3.0 and install to your computer.
  • Download death_au's FoFiX script v0.8 to GlovePIE's Wiimote Scripts Directory
  • Connect your Wiimote to the computer via your bluetooth progam. Specific instructions for your bluetooth stack can be found on the Internet, and there is a video tutorial on how to connect using the default Windows Vista / Windows XP SP2 Bluetooth stack here
  • Connect your Wiimote to the instrument controller as normal
  • Open up the FoFiX script in GlovePIE and click "Run"

Default mapping of the controls for the script correspond to the default controls in FoFiX. Please read the instuctions in the script for how to change the control mapping.

GNU/Linux

PS2

Get your hands on a PS2 to USB adapter and it'll work out of the box.

xbox360

Depending on your distribution, it might work out of the box. If it does not, install the xboxdrv driver.

Note: There are alternatives, like the xpad kernel module, but since the xboxdrv is a userspace kernel driver that works even with the most recent kernels with problematic Xorg AutoAddDevices feature, we recommend that one.

Mac OSX

xbox360

Install this driver. See the instructions on the driver page for more information.
