Description

Video demonstrating a battle between players on the 24/7 Procyon Server and NPCs spawned dynamically via the use of mission scripts.

While the script shown is fairly simple (causing an NPC comm to be sent to all players in the system, followed by the spawning a group of Dreadnaughts instructed to remain stationary, in addition to a number of mobile Cruiser formations and fighter wings acting as support), and part of a larger multi-stage scripted event, it does demonstrate the viability of using such scripts in a multiplayer environment.

In addition to enabling the creation of custom on-demand NPC spawns (such as the stationary battleships that are stationed within capital systems on the Procyon server) and NPC comm messages, mission scripts can also be utilized to spawn solar objects (bases, planets, etc), cloak and decloak NPCs, send objective displays to players, force the playing of specific music tracks, and a great deal more. Research into improving upon mission scripting in a multiplayer environment, and the development of practical uses for it (beyond using it for small on-demand Nomad invasion mini-events in Omicron Theta) has become a point of focus on Procyon.
