Flagship is a real-time strategy game set on a galactic scale, played from a first person perspective. The game is being built from the ground-up to be played with the Oculus Rift, though it can be played on a normal monitor as well.
Fighters are in!
Awesome!
Great...Will the fighters operate in squadrons , single or both (like in Star Wars)?
The plan at the moment is that you'll give orders to fighters by the squadron, orders will most likely take the form of general defense/attack, attack/defend a specific target, escort a target etc. We want to make it flexible without the need to micro-manage individual fighters.
Fighters will automatically fend off attackers and protect each other, but from your perspective it's all about the overall strategy. Sending your fighters into a heavily defended group will open gaps in the enemy defenses but could leave your own cap ships vulnerable to enemy bombers. Sending bombers against a heavily defended target without an escort runs a higher risk of losing them, but could also pay off if they succeed. Should lead to some pretty dynamic situations!
I pretty like how you use the word "dynamic". Most strategy game work after the paper-stone-scissor prinziple, but I sense the end of a battle is always quiete open and affected by luck as well.
Really looking great. I love this tactical use of fighters. Risk Vs Reward balance.
