CCP Games has announced that Oculus Rift launch title EVE: Valkyrie has received a new gameplay mode – Carrier Assault. This mode is akin to the Titan Mode from Battlefield 2142, or Star Wars’ trench run scene; players must capture points on the map to attack the enemy carrier’s shields. Once the shields are down, they must then fly through the carrier’s hull itself and attack the core to destroy the carrier for good. As CCP elaborates:
“In Carrier Assault we are delivering that hallowed trench run moment that has been etched into the minds of many a Sci-Fi fan. The video footage might look exciting, but nothing gets the pulse going like flying into the belly of the beast for the first time in VR.”
Though EVE: Valkyrie launched as an Oculus Rift exclusive, the space sim will also be coming to PlayStation VR when the hardware launches on October 13. Additionally, the game will be coming to the HTC Vive, though CCP does not yet have a hard date for the release – only sometime in 2016. Motion control support is planned, and cross-platform play between the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR versions is in the works.
