The annual EVE Fanfest is underway in Reykjavik , Iceland, where hardcore EVE Online players gather to celebrate and commiserate their victories and losses in the player-driven massively multiplayer game. EVE Fanfest is also a time for developer CCP Games to reveal new features and additions to not just EVE Online, but its new slew of EVE offshoot games.
One such reveal is a new gameplay mode for VR dogfighting sim, EVE Valkyrie - Carrier Assault. Players must capture relays on the map in order to take down the enemy carrier's shields, then approach the carrier and destroy its turrets before flying into the carrier itself to destroy its core. It's reminiscent of Battlefield 2142's lauded Titan mode, though with a shade of Star Wars' iconic trench run.
This wasn't the only EVE: Valkyrie-related news CCP had to share. Cross-platform multiplayer would be coming to the game, allowing Oculus Rift players to presumably play in the same servers with PlayStation VR players, once that launches. We assume this means Rift and Vive players will be able to play with each other too, one the game launches on the Vive, considering both are PC platforms.
CCP also revealed a new map called Crossroads, which can be seen in the above Carrier Assault trailer. Joystick compatibility will also be coming to the game, so you won't be stuck with an Xbox gamepad. Carrier Assault, along with these other updates, will be coming to EVE Valkyrie sometime in the next few months.
