As UploadVR reports, EVE: Valkyrie developer CCP Games is planning on adding motion control support to the game when the HTC Vive version launches later this year. Currently, the space dogfighting sim is exclusive to the Oculus Rift, which does not have any motion control capabilities. The game is designed around flying and aiming with a gamepad - so what would motion control bring to the table?

As CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson tells Upload VR, he would like to be able to "fire blind from behind his craft, operating gun turrets with his hands". He's also option to the notion of controlling thruster acceleration with the motion controls.

Of course, such features would present new mechanics that would simply be unavailable to those without motion controls, giving the former group an unfair advantage. And since EVE: Valkyrie will feature cross-platform play between the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR, the playing field needs to be level.

Then again, the PlayStation VR has its own motion controllers with the PlayStation Move, and the Rift will be getting the Oculus Touch controllers later this year. So perhaps that playing field will make motion control standard once every platform has that option available. Ultimately, however, there is no guarantee that motion control support will eventuate, but Pétursson insists, "this needs to happen."
