In Electro Bobble you play a Bobble of electricity that lives in a thunder cloud. You must avoid falling out of your cloud by jumping between platforms and use weapons and special powers that you collect as you jump to defeat the Electro Meanie minions and bosses. Electro Bobble is a vertically scrolling “bullet-hell” style platformer, and is procedurally generated and so no two play-throughs are the same.

Following Electro Bobble's post-release feedback, this release includes a series of balance changes to shift the feel of Electro Bobble more towards a fun shoot-em-up, with less emphasis on the platforming aspect of the game. We've also added some new features and fixed a few minor bugs in the process.

Changes

The changes are as follows:

  • Movement:
    • Controls are now much snappier and more responsive.
    • The Jetpack is now easier to control.
  • Drops / Power-Ups:
    • No longer affected by physics, instead hovering where they spawn.
    • Generated much less frequently.
    • Larger.
    • Significantly more effective.
    • Shield is now instantly triggered when a shield drop is picked up, no need for charging.
    • Bosses now drop 5 power-ups in a predictable pattern. Scrolling slows to allow you to collect them.
    • Much higher chance of getting a weapon upgrade drop if you haven't picked one up for while.
    • Timers now displayed for the Jetpack and Shield drops underneath the player, so it is more obvious when they are about to run out.
  • Platforms:
    • Slightly more platforms are now generated to make climbing a little easier.
    • More orange platforms and fewer other platform types are generated.
    • Single-block grey platforms have been removed (blue shockwave platforms still turn grey when triggered though).
    • Increased the damage the shockwave platform does to enemies.
  • Enemies:
    • Spawned more often.
    • Do more damage.
    • More variety of enemies spawned as you get higher.
  • Weapons:
    • Weapons completely redesigned.
    • 6 weapon types, each more powerful than the last.
    • Most powerful weapon's bullets now ignore platform collisions.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Vertical scrolling speed has been increased slightly to account for the new movement controls.
    • Improved game performance across the board.
    • Added screen-shake to explosions.
    • Re-worked the graphics for the 'Mischievous Cloud' boss.
    • Removed damage amount indicators as the information wasn't useful to the player.
    • Added score amount indicators on enemy deaths and score power-ups.
  • Bug Fixes:
    • Fixed a bug that caused the player to fall through platforms under certain circumstances.
    • Fixed a bug that caused platforms to overlap under certain circumstances.
    • Fixed the jetpack not triggering immediately if collected whilst falling.
    • Fixed a bug in the Electro Spider boss that caused it not to finish firing if the firing limbs were destroyed whilst firing.
