Conquest of Elysium 3 is an old school fantasy strategy game. You explore your surroundings conquer locations that provides the resources you need. Resources needed vary much depending on what character you are, e.g. the high priestess need places where she can gather human sacrifices, the baron needs places where tax can be collected and where iron can be mined. These resources can then be used for magic rituals and troop recruitments. The main differentiator for this game is the amount of features and special abilities that can be used. The game can be played on Windows, Linux (x86 and raspberry pi) and Mac OSX (intel and powerpc).

This thread is for the purpose of discussing problems related to installing CoE3 and possible buggy behavior related to that. KNOWN ISSUES COE3 & ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE Some people have experienced a problem where their completely freezes with a black screen and locks up when running CoE3 the first time after installation and entering the product key. This behavior seems to be traceable to at least some antivirus programs and their behavior. A known combination where this happens is Windows Vista 64 bit and Norton 360. The SONAR component of Norton 360 is one of the identified causes of the problem. The reported problem did not occur prior to patch 3.06 for the user who experienced it, though others have reported similar things even when the game first came out. It is likely that the advanced process guard and heuristics features of some antivirus software interpret CoE3 as a form of malware. Possibly the components related to the key validation checks or other network features trigger these false alarms. It is recommended that if you experience this problem, you should turn off such features from your AV program or add the relevant exceptions for coe3.exe in ALL the relevant places. Here is a partial list of some known processes that may cause this problem: Since I do tech support for a living professionally and focus especially on the consumer computer problem solving side, here are some recommendations based in that professional experience: - If you have Norton 360, get rid of it. Almost anything, including other more recent products from Symantec, are much better and cause less problems If new issues crop up, they will be posted here as well. |
