CATYPH: The Kunci Experiment is Another Space Adventure reminiscent of Myst and Rhem, and you can certainly play it without knowing anything about the first Black Cube game, ASA. With the help of the data that you collect on Tytaah, you must attempt to access the 7 regions of this moon. Your main mission: understand what the Kunci is. The whole game relies on observation, discovery and exploration.

I'm very happy to announce the release of Boinihi: The K'i Codex, a scifi adventure that can remind of Syberia, Myst and other games of the genre with prerendered 3d graphics.

In Boinihi, you control a solitary astronaut on a faraway moon, and have to investigate about mysterious yellow ghosts and a manuscript Codex written in an unknown language. You'll have to decifer it with the tools you find during your quest, in order to understand the past of this world, and try to get back to your home world...

About:

I'm Simon Mesnard, a French indie dev who works at home with 3dsmax and Visionaire Studio. Boinihi is my 4th game in a series started in 2011 called The Black Cube (you can play each episode independently: ASA, Myha...). I made everything in Boinihi on my own, between 2016 and 2020. The music was composed by French artist Yazorius. Starring Klemens Koehring (Dark Nights with Poe and Munroe, JULIA: Among the Stars) as the voice of the Hero Astronaut and Boinihi.

Several bonus files are included in the game's folder: mp3, video, comic book...

Hello, Simon. Your posts about production and post-production are very nice. I didnt read all of them but I will. Its good to learn a little more about that. Thanks.

Im concerned with one thing. Do you try to make most puzzles related to the story and settings? Some puzzle-heavy games tend to have very little story and too much puzzles which can be pretty overwhelming after some time. So Im curious how do you balance these things.

It looks really nice. Congratulations, Simon. You achieved to make the CGI movie interesting and surreal while not overdoing it into some weird stuff. There is only one very strange thing - that the astronaut is alone. I would advice to have some explanation for that (hint) in the game. I have few questions:

- Is movement free (FPS style) or nod-based?
- Could player meet few people or other inteligent beings/robots in the game in order to talk with them? Or is it secret? :)
- Is the story partially surreal or mythical or most things are explained and logical at the end?

Sorry for the late reply! Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you liked the short film. The fact that the astronaut is alone is somehow explained in the game, yes. You will have access to a datalog with a lot of info.

- movement is not free. Catyph is a slideshow game with video transitions. It is not realtime 3D.
- the player will be in communication with different characters. They will talk to you and make the story evolve.
- the story is both surreal and logical. It is surreal because most of the technologies and events are far from what we know of space exploration nowadays, but everything finds an explanation in a sci-fi way.

Thanks for reply. Movement and communication is ok for me. I hope that at least one of these characters wont be human. :)

Do you also plan some survival element like the need to supply water tube in your suit? I know its not exactly survival adventure, but... you are alone on a distant moon after all. It could be implemented as mild atmosphere-enhancing puzzle element, not some constant deadly threat (for example - you will need water only few times in a story).

I can't tell too much now :) There is something I have in mind about supply, but it's not water or food. I will have to make some tests first, but later in the development when I have finished the graphics part.

Chars - that two unrevealed chars somewhat reminds me of R2D2 and C3PO. :-)
Germinal - he looks like a vampire.
General - I would probably avoid that cigar. Its pretty stereotypical Starcraft-style feature for "cool tough soldiers". IMHO scar would be better. The whole general model is far from great but I assume you wont see it much in the game.
