Yeah, Sam done a great job on this. I love the feather work. Can't wait 'til we've got this beast in action.

"The Long Bows
They are almost seven feet in length and there are two kinds. One is called "Shigetou,'' which was used by Samurais, and the other is called "Kazuyumi," which was used generally by soldiers. "Shigetou" means "coiled rattan," and this material wrapped the body of this bow. The grip of the long bow is very low position."

the longbow simply (Yumi) because its the most commonly seen and used even today.. was the one used by the samurai for like 900 odd years^^ its 'Traditional' japanese archery same one used today. this small one like the japanese link says... is just for show, though like all things im sure some Samurai used it, like SOME would have used Chinese inspired weapons etc or even hammers and axes.. its just not well recorded or shown... realistically... it happened. I mean seriously its like samurai having a uniformed colour, shogun 2 is completely wrong like that. Samurai armies except for like 2 examples in the whole of the recorded history where miss match random *** colours. Hence the banners. and the simply answer no, horse back OR foot makes no difference. same bow. You have me on Steam btw i posted about ninja ;) - add me if you need any help/ideas (not saying you need any)

Oh okay cool, cheers for the heads up that it was you in the steam group haha. Also, great info, we'll definitely take this on board. Keep in mind we'll have unlockable weapons just like in chivalry as is now -- message received -- longbow incoming!

p.s. the only reason I mentioned using them from horseback is because a book I picked up for source material ("Art of armor - from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum") mentioned the bows being so huge that's how they typically used them. That said, the book is more of a catalogue of museum items rather than filled with actual information, so thanks again for the info!

Yeah well I would imagine thats when it was first designed for, but later used on foot. After all Samurai didn't start as Cavalry or foot-soldiers they started as horse mounted archers. later their role changed as we all know, shoguns came or went their status became something different etc.

And though not part of the this dissection, the Rank 'Samurai' that went out a few 100 years ago actually still existed as a rank with a new name in the Imperial Japanese army in WW2, they Served as officers.

Ah nice @ it's evolution. We've got someone working on the longbow so stay tuned for updates in that regard. (It will also have a little nod to Akira Kurosawa)

And interesting little fact about samurai still being used today. I didn't know that :D
