A Song of Text and Commands is a text-based adventure RPG inspired by the story of “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin. It will follow the traditional style of a text-based RPG but in the world of Westeros. The whole world will be completely open world and the player will be able to do a multitude of things, this includes; style based combat, mercantile, quests, relationships and the ability to eventually become the god of tits and wine.

Now, although this game is purely text based and there is no 3D elements to it at all I wanted to still make it fun in today’s market and I obviously want people to play it. So one part of doing this is by adding in music and lots of it.

Different regions of Westeros will have different styles of music and there will be “Adventuring” music for when you’re exploring the whole world and also music for towns, battles, castles, taverns, shops, forests, the sea etc. The world is really going to be sprung to life with these additions which will hopefully make an otherwise slightly boring ordeal of travelling from one place to another slightly better. I will release a trailer when I have more content which will include some of the sound tracks which I have already started to pick out. However an early trailer might be in a month or so. Now I actually recently revised how large I want each sector to be, currently it is 250×250 pixels which makes the world seem incredibly small. I want to change this to around 100×100 pixels. To get a grasp at how much of a difference it will be and how larger the world will feel, here is a comparison:

100 x 100
100 x 100

250 x 250
250 x 250

So as you can see, the map will increase in size, A LOT. In-fact, instead of 69 tiles, the map will be made up of 173 tiles instead. More than doubling the current playing space. By the time of full release we will have our own custom map without and text on it and instead a piece of information relating to the tile you’re in will appear in the chat window. Such as:

To your west you see the edge of the coast, to the north you see nothingness, just the bleak desert of snow, the same is with your east and south. You think if you follow the coast you may be able to find civilization.
