0 A.D. is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy (RTS) game of ancient warfare. one thing intrigues me tho: does the river have fords i.e. does onehave to build boats to get to the goods, as Icant make out any fords from "up here"

Ooh, Very nice. The bends in the river are particularly nice IMO.

Also, have to ask; Will there be any maps with lots of islands on them?

One particular island map will be "Cycladic Archipelago" which is a Mediterranean (specifically Aegean) map akin to "Small Islands" from Age of Empires. There will also be a Temperate map called "Eire and Albion" with a few large islands.

The map is also rather large, so I recommend a rig with good specs. There are a few slow-downs, specifically caused by the AI and pathfinding. Both AI and pathfinding will receive some tender loving care for future releases in order to get them optimized and performing well.

This map is actually twice the size (in area) of a similar 3-player map in Age of Mythology.

Yeah I recognized the style from the river/egypt map out of AoM. So is 0 A.D. also including various random map types? It's been a couple alphas since I actually ran the game, back when there was no AI, and I've forgotten.

You got your Ghost Lake, Yucatan, River(s), Oasis, Islands (Small and Large), Team Islands, Volcanic (making stuff up now, something like small chain islands and mountainous calderas), Gold Rush, Continental, New World (AoM start on small island, migrate to continent), Steppes, Fortress, Nomad, Acropolis, Savannah, blah bletc.

Also in terms of the maximum size capabilities of the engine, will there be a super-gigantic option? Something like 64x the area of the Giant map from AoK? Maybe some 32 players on 16 separate teams?

I think 32 players on 16 teams is a little wild for an RTS. We plan on 6-8 players maximum. Sorry. :(

Description

A new custom map for Alpha VI, which utilizes the Tropic and Savanna biomes. Three players start on the Southern bank of a broad jungle river, which is full of the Wood resources and not much else. The Northern bank has tonnes of animals herds ripe for the hunting and lots of Metal and Stone quarries.
