0 A.D. is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy (RTS) game of ancient warfare. It's a historically-based war/economy game that allows players to relive or rewrite the history of twelve ancient civilizations, from Iberia to Mauryan India, each depicted at their peak of economic growth and military prowess. Developed using Pyrogenesis, a ground-breaking new game engine custom-built to suit this project, 0 A.D. will give players a rich and entertaining real-time gaming experience.
"Exponential Armor" is the exciting new armor paradigm in the game. Each additional level of armor reduces damage taken by 10%.
This means, if you have an armor tech (e.g., "Silver Shields") that adds +1 pierce armor to all units, it will reduce the pierce damage taken by all units by 10%, regardless of how much pierce armor each unit started with.
This helps with balancing and ensures a tech doesn't affect different units differently, unless intended to do so.
It's also just cooler to say "+1 Armor Level." ;)
Reminds me of AOM again...
and that's a good thing :D verrrry good :b
It's a "percentage" system, like AOM. The difference is how the armor percentages are incremented by technologies.
Example:
Level 1 armor is 10%. That means that the unit receives 90% of the damage directed at it. To reduce that damage by another 10% (+1 armor level), you don't increase armor to 20%, you increase it to 19%, 9 being 1/10th of 90.
makes sence, btw i was especially referring to the hack; pierce & crush system :D
Why does a unit with armed with spears have hack attack? Is it something balance related?
Hack = Melee.
Hack+Pierce and then make it use the one that's better for the job? :p
Will this show a visual upgrade like AOM or is that just reservered for veterancy?
Can't wait to fight with my Spartans! I'm gonna be playing with the editor like I used to in AoC.
Will the AI actually hold positions when in battle or will it just erupt into a big pile of crap ?
No offense..I just mean I seen lots of cool
formations in games that just end up that way in battle.
