This idea was meant for fun, not for realistic gameplay ok? i thought of this about 3 minutes ago so forgive me if this is a bit crude. at the beginning of a new game you start off with your own suit and weapons etc. At the beginning guns will be realistic (except less powerful) you will have recoil, move slowly jump slowly etc. as rounds progress it will move away from realism and turn to fast paceed action. You can purchase upgrades for your suit make you have less recoil, run faster, jump higher, special abilites etc. and guns will become increasingly more unrealistic, like firing bolts of energy. basically i woudl like it to be a fun mod, not a realistic one, in the end it will become a fast paced game but balanced, so people who have just joined still can kill better people. Teamplay will still be in there! objectives to be compelted, people can buy weapons for you (i.e. if you are the best sniper in the team, people can buy the weapon for him! or say if there is an ability where you charge up your suit (just thought of that) the team can charge up your suit EDIT: for hl2, so there will be vehicles etc. - Edited By dilinator On Sun 25th, Jul 2004 @ 9:59:21am |

ooooo, just thought of another idea, the special abilites will need to be recharged so you have to buy batteries to bring around with you and teammates can charge your suit as well. |

this is a joke right? |

no that makes me feel good |

it's kinda cool... like counterstrike meets metroid is what I get. |

lol kinda. you will have special abilities, i dont aim for this to be one of those mods that everyone plays, i just think it would be fun for me to play if i really couldnt be bothered it woud just be deathmatch, but i thought i should put in some teamplay things for those who would be annoyed |

update: this is a small thing i have been working on, please give feedback so i can change accordingly, this is very quick and NOT very detailed: Gameplay: Weapons Vehicles Upgrades Items • Getting shot will slow you down, upgrades will change this however. • You will lose health by weapons (and some items), but some upgrades/items can stop this for periods of time, or make you gain health. • Recoil will be enforced, it will be quite hard to shoot and will be a lot harder with more futuristic weapons. some things may be missing. |

you could sorta stick the deus ex upgrade system in there, so like you have 4 slots (head, arms, legs, torso) with maybe like 3 different things to do in each, but you have to decide which ones you want. would add a little tactical depth to the game -- ___________________________

yeah thats kinda it actually! ive never played deus ex so i wouldnt know!
see 4 upgrade slots, but it wont be exactly head arms etc. it will be health type things as well |
||
|
Jul 25 2004 Anchor | |
the torso could be the health thing... like in deus ex you can either opt for a speed/strength approach, or a tactical/stealth approach, or mix them -- ___________________________

yeah, but i dont want to directly copy, already had problems with that with my last mod idea (not only my idea actually) |

Good but a little complicated. If you want it to be fast paced youll have to make the buying system very intuative. |
||
|
Jul 25 2004 Anchor | |
maybe if you run out of batteries, you just drop in the middle of the battle field -- Nothing. |
||
Jul 25 2004 Anchor | ||
actually its not that complicated, i just elaborated it a bit: basically if you want to get your weapons or items, they are free! any of the team can have them and there is a limited number. but suit upgrades are your own problem and the "dealer" is like a buyzone in cs
heh no, you will not be able to use any of your special abilites (not mentioned above) and your upgrades will not function, so basically you will be back at square one unless you find a battery fast, using suit functions such as special abilites, or just general wear (as in batteries will wear over time) will run them down. - Edited By dilinator On Sun 25th, Jul 2004 @ 7:35:45pm |

i was thinking that the functions would be free, and would make it like you can create your own classes, essentially -- ___________________________

nope, everything but the upgrades are free, im still deciding on the special abilites though. |

Y'know, I think vehicles are already in HL2. I remember reading somewhere that Mr. Freeman drives a dune buggy at one point, in which case, I'm guessing that you won't need to implement vehicles since they'll already be there! |
||
Jul 25 2004 Anchor | ||
Well, you'll need to come up with the models and animations and what not, but yes, vehicles are implementable, kind of like in Unreal Tournament 2004's. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |
||
Jul 25 2004 Anchor | ||
yay!!!!! im just wondering how vehicles would affect gameplay, are they needded at all??? |
||
Jul 25 2004 Anchor | ||
Well, they're not needed, but it'd add a new level of gameplay... -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |
||
Jul 26 2004 Anchor | ||
yeah i suppose, i'll think about it over breakfast |

Is using the HL2 engine a final decision? From what I understand, the Unreal Engine is much more fast paced... And easier to beta test at this point in time :p How about a character class option? Not to rip from NeoTokyo, but you could bring an extra depth to the game by forcing people to check out all their possibilities... A lightweight unit could equip fewer upgrades, start with weaker weapons, but also have a faster running ability and higher jumping ability. As more upgrades become available, more specialized character classes could open up as well. |

Vehicles in multiplayer games generally make or break it. As a rule of thumb, if you expect to have large numbers of players fighting in more open arenas (a la UT, Tribes, and the Battlefield series) vehicles will add new dimensions to gameplay. However, if your game is in more claustrophobic areas focusing on stealthier combat or more firefight style play (a la Counter-Strike or Day of Defeat) vehicles will probably hinder you since they can be cumbersome to incorporate. Of course, the catchall technique is implement vehicles but only include them in certain maps. |

By the time dilinator even starts working on this mod, Half-Life 2 should be out. So, I don't think he has to worry about beta-testing right now, seeing as how TC mods usually take about a year to make You've never played Half-Life 2, so you don't know what the pace is, since it can be tweaked to make the units go faster or slower >.> -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |
