This is the Beta release of my Vengeance of the Blood Ravens mod.
Unpack into your main Dow II Retribution folder, and launch with Astartes.bat

Races , tactics, and units:
Space marines heroes all have a separate race attached.
Chapter commander is Adeptus Astartes, unlocking the contemporary 40k Space marines.
Legion commander is Legiones Astartes, unlocking the 30k era late Great Crusade Space marines.
Grey Knights commander is Daemonhunters, unlocking the Grey Knights.
IG heroes are the same:
Cadian commander unlocks the standard IG.
Krieg commander unlocks the Krieg IG. Not suppressible, but fire slower if more powefully with their lasguns.
Tau commander: Tau race, similar a bit to IG. Very weak in melee, but good at range due to all of its weapons being plasma or melta based.
General tips:
Space Marines and Chaos Marines are very powerful, but also expensive. Rushing them or not letting them tech up , outflanking them is a good idea.
As powerful as your standard marines are, beware, Tier 3 enemy units like Nobz can still easily wipe them out.
Eldar are really fast, but they are fragile. Use this to outmanoever the enemy.
Orks are tough, and cheap, coming in hordes. Ork squads gain more Health by levelups. Area of effect weapons are advised. Be warned, Ork ai usually likes to tech up as soon as possible and spam Battlewagons.
IG: Can do some decent ranged damage, but fragile and slow. Use tanks like Chimeras as a fire magnet to take fire away from your troops.
Tyranids: Cheapest and swarmiest, but vulnerable to vehicles so make sure to have a contingent of venom cannon carrying units to counter enemy tanks.
Install the mod into your main Dow II retribution folder. Readme file included with Credits and instructions.
I found a bug for the death guard their tact squad in game, half of them have black boxes around them?

Windows cannot find "\steam.exe" I have steam games not on a C disc, i gues that is the problem (at least it was with other dow 2 mods)
Yes , please try to edit the Bat file to match your directory. You can edit it like a text file.
OR
You can try to simply launch the mod with a steam launch properties! Try -modname Astartes
I clicked on the launch options in the properties tab on steam, but it says its only for "Advanced Users Only" can you help with that? And i dont quite know how to, or in what way to change the Bat file to match my directory.
Any help would be most thankful.
*UPDATE* I have managed to get it working by adding -dev to the Bat file, but all Space Marine, or Chaos factions do NOT work, i have not tested the Tau, any help?

Got same error can't fined steam exe. manage to launch with -dev -modname Astartes , but got CTD when try to lunch skirmish :o
Please try it with -modname Astartes without the -dev. The new Beta does not require a dev mode, and crashes if its used.
I seem to be having issues.
The .bat that is included doesn't work; "Windows cannot find '\steam.exe'.
However, I can get the mod to run by setting the launch options to:
"-nomovies -modname Astartes"
It seems to crash whenever I run a Skirmish and a few models seem to be missing in the Army Painter (Khorne Beserkers, most of the Tyranid units and some others).
So i am not the only one... at least i got lunch options.
Lets be patient, its just first version :).
Seems like an odd install, I'll look into it. What settings do you use for your graphics?
The army painter is a bit bugged yet.
Hm... what other mods do you got installed? What races did you select in Skirmish? Could be that there is an error with one race in particular. (I'm trying Chaos against Nids right now, all seems fine so far. )
I do have other mods installed, but I didn't think that it'd interfere with other mods as you usually activate them individually (I'm not a modder, so I have no idea if that IS true).
I think what I may do is totally reinstall Retribution again and then install this mod. I'll let you know if anything continues to mess up.
It can be. I know that Elite mod and Codex Edition dont mix.
I did uninstall every mod I had before testing the Beta to make sure it runs.
That may be the issue then.
Tomorrow, I'll reinstall and let you know how it goes.

using -modname Astartes , got these error during skirmish load
What races were you using? How good is your pc?
I tested up to date Chaos, SM, IG, Eldar, Nids and Tau after release, but no problem so far.
I had the CTD problem when using World Eaters in 4 and 6 players skirmish, although 2v2 worked fine. As those models are very detailed, I thought it was a graphic quality problem, so I used the automatic graphic settings and no crashes since then. It seems to be something about the textures and model quality, since having those options in ultra and high seems to solve the problem, with a heavy fps drop when there are a lot of units at the same time, wich I didn't have before when using lower settings.
I reduced shadows and effects quality and got a huge performance improvement. All races work fine and no crashes.

Thanks, so the crash may be just the game needing more memory.
Yes some of the models may need high quality settings, but shadows and antianalising and such can be turned off I think.
Maybe try turning the resolution down?
In my case were just the effects settings, my GT430 has always had problems with particles and such things. My native resolution (1366 x 728) works fine even with the maxed out models and textures. However, I found the same black boxes another guy saw near the Death Guard marines and some models doesn't appear in the army painter.
Also, I have two suggestions that would be nice if you could put them in the mod:
1-You could make the specific legion models paintable, for better customized thematic warbands.
2-Sonic weapons for Emperor's Children's dreadnoughts and daemonettes instead of bloodletters for that legion.
I'm sorry, but that's beyond my ability to do.

Everytime I try and launch a skirmish my game crashes on load any advice? was playing legion space marines vs eldar
I tried all races and they do work.... I dont know what the problem is.
Try checking your warning log and post it on this site to me as a message, maybe it can help me.

The Game crashes during the loading screen. How can I fix it?
Ok it crashes when I take, play with or play against Space Marines.
I play on low settings.
I would say re-download and reinstall.

I've played this mod so many times and I really do enjoy it!
There are however a few issues that I've been having, and from the looks of it, several other people have mentioned it as well. That being that whenever any Space Marine army is in the battle (with or against), it seems to crash the game and go to the desktop.
Aside from that (and the Death Guard black box issue which you've fixed), everything seems fine and dandy to me!
Also here's something I've been wondering, would this mod be compatible with the Retribution campaign?
