The Thing Remaster 1.1
UNINSTALL VERSION 1.0 IF YOU ALREADY HAVE IT INSTALLED
Installation:
-Install Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer on Steam and set it to beta - upcoming
-Download the mod
-Place "the_thing_remaster" inside your sourcemods folder (.../Steam/steamapps/sourcemods)
-Restart Steam
Alternative Installation:
-Install Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2 Episode 2 on Steam
-Download the mod
-Place "the_thing_remaster" inside your sourcemods folder (.../Steam/steamapps/sourcemods)
-Go to ".../Steam/steamapps/sourcemods/the_thing_remaster," open gameinfo.txt, and change the steamappid from 243730 to 220
-Restart Steam

-New name for the mod on steam,The Thing -> The Thing Remaster (Thank to /TheWolf for the suggestion)
-More brush work replaced with models on the_thing_1
-Moved the button to start to final battle on the_thing_4
-Removed unused background textures
-Removed some useless files in the archive to gain some space and avoid some weird extraction problem with 7-Zip
-Added a "custom" folder for customization
-Added player clip brush to the 2 metal stairs on the_thing_2
-Optionnal "Beta Assets" for the mod

I just finished it and it was better than the old version, but I found some bugs:
1) for some reason, the game loads the menu backgrounds from HL2: Imgur.com
2) the menu title is broken: Imgur.com
3) there's this weird white square on the screen: Imgur.com
4) there's this tiny missing texture on the_thing_1: Imgur.com
suggestion: change this Combine soldier to the Shotgunner, since the shotgun is lying next to him: Imgur.com
question: the readme menitons editing the gameinfo by changing the SteamAppId from 243730 to 220. Why?
For the steamappid change from 243730 to 220 i already precised that this is just a other way to instal the mod, it's says above "Alternative Installation", some people doesn't want to download source sdk base 2013 sp for multiple reasons so i've made that.
As for the report 1 and 3 i never had those problems and even the playtesters didn't got them, maybe it's because you're running the mod on Half-Life 2 and not on Source Base 2013 sp, if not then maybe you have custom stuff in source 2013 sp so try to instal a clean version of it.
For the report n2, just an oversight on my part.
And for the report n4 yeah i'll fix that for the 1.2
But yeah anyway thank for the suggestion, it's on my todo list now.
I fixed problem 3. I had to delete anything in the SDK lauch options line.
And as for problem 1, version 1.0 had files in materials/console called background01 - background04.vtf and background01_widescreen - background04_widescreen.vtf. Version 1.1 only has background01 and background01_widescreen.
TLDR: problem 3 was my fault, problem 1 was caused by missing files from version 1.0
problem 1 shouldn't occur, like i removed all the background textures except for the first 1 (background01 and background01_widescreen) since the rest was useless.
Well it still happened to me, and when I put in the other textures, that fixed it.

You will find that a lot of people dont know how to go into the settings and switch source 2013 beta update. I've enhanced 100's of mods old, new. They all work. With 2013 update. A fewscript errors but hey It's just a hobby.
I remember when the thing came out. I think Half Life 2 was beta back then.
Nice one. Do you remember b66 (bunker 66)? Good mod, not finished but the original creator said. 'anyone can do what they want with it.' It's worth a look. I got most of the levels working. My youtube is taken down I can upload on another platform to show. I'll post a link soon. See what you think.
