This is the binary for the third release of QuakeDS
Sourced from: Quake.drunkencoders.com
config.cfg | The config file that I use to run the game with. A regular PC one will do, but I know that this one works :-) |
DOS shareware version | Shareware version of the DOS version of Quake - contains shareware pak files needed to run QuakeDS |
Quake source | id's page of game source |
DLDI for libfat | Chishm's flash card driver page - you need the appropriate file from this page in order to make QuakeDS run |
How to start the game has not changed - if you've played before, just replace the executable with a new one.
This mini-guide assumes that you are familar with the process of running homebrew on your Nintendo DS. If you don't know how to run NDS homebrew, look online for the answer...
You cannot use total conversions or mods with the shareware data files.
- In the root of your flash card, make a directory named id1
- If you're using the shareware version, copy pak0.pak from that archive into the id1 directory that you just created
- If you're using a commerical version, copy pak0.pak AND pak1.pak into that directory
- For example, on my GBA Movie Player (CF) I download the file named 'mpcf.dldi' from Chishm's page.
- I then run 'dlditool mpcf.dldi k:\QuakeDS.nds' - note K: is the volume where my Compact Flash card is mounted, yours will likely differ
- For example, on my GBA Movie Player, I need to rename K:\QuakeDS.nds to K:\_boot_mp.nds
Here is an excellent video tutorial by CalcProgrammer showing you how to install pre-release 2 - the method is still the same for release 3.
Does it still run at 3fps, hehe ;)?
wish this could be emulated.
it can be emulated, but you need something like the R4 revalution for ds game chip with a mini-sd card, with the moonshell software installed to make it compatible for ds. just load the nds file in the mini-sd with the moonshell software installed, load the mini-sd into the R4 game chip, then play away.
Actually, on the standard R4 with no extra slot-2 memory packs, it runs quite well, even better then DSDoom! I'm guessing because this homebrew utilizes the hardware better and is programmed differently. Surprising, eh?
@leilei, you mean in a DS emulator? In theory it could, but why would you want to do that?
looks awesome, might download when i get the dsiplayer card
if youve got a r4 can you download this onto it
Very fun just got it working on my DSi with my M3 card!
cant load gfx halp pls
That's usually a problem with the gamefiles, make sure pak0.pak and pak1.pak are both in id1
Is there a way to use mods on this? Also, how do i play multiplayer?
I dont see why not. Stop by these guys for Quake stuff in 2021 :] Facebook.com 1 & 2 quake 3 history page. Q2 also runs on the DS.
Hey, I keep having trouble booting this up, I am using twilight menu ++ and have made an id1 folder in the roms section of my SD card. It includes the pak0.pak (shareholder version) and the config file. I also have the NDS file aswell. (also it automatically made a ramdisks folder). I'm confused as to what i did wrong as I even patched it with dldi. didnt know what thing I patched it with though, could be a problem. please help!
QuakeDS By Simon Hall
Hold L to disable qdsopts.txt
Starting up
Fat init...ok
passed fp tests!
Using default command line
Init ARM7...
And thats when it (i believe) freezes, not sure though. Holding L does nothing. Don't know if this helps but I am using a DSi XL. also made an account now for easy replying
