Hello everyone. It's been a while since anything has been uploaded for this mod, but I had a fan reach out to me with their own personal spin on my mod. I thought it was kind of cool, so I've reuploaded it here (with their consent) for anyone to enjoy. The full change log can be found in the description.
PART 1: INTRODUCTION
This is a tweaked version of Quake 4 Reborn Version 2. Submitted and created by Nightmarekiller, all credit for the tweaks go to him. You can see the full change list of what
has changed since the regular version of V2 was released below.
Adam
1) Machine-Gun:
a) 100% accuracy, normal and scoped
b) extended clip mod of 50 clip changed to 60
c) Ammo pick-up is always 30 (clip or dropped gun)
2) Shotgun:
a) Decreased the spread a little bit. Now the shotgun is effective even in middle to long range.
b) Increased the Fire-rate to be almost like an auto-shotgun
c) Restored the original clip sizes of normal and extended.
d) Decreased the total ammo from 50 to 40
e) Ammo pick-up will be always 8 (clip or dropped gun)
3) Hyperblaster:
a) Decreased the fire-rate around to the original setting
b) Ammo pick-up will always be only 50, dropped gun 80
4) Nail-gun:
a) Added a little bit more fire-rate
b) Decreased slightly the damage
c) Restored the original clips sizes
5) Grenade Launcher:
a) Decreased slightly the damage
6) Rail Gun:
a) Removed the reloading system
b) Increased the fire-rate
c) Ammo pick-up will always be only 3 (clip or dropped gun)
d) Decreased total ammo from 50 to 30
7) Rocket Launcher:
a) Increased slightly the damage
b) Ammo pick-up will be just 3
c) Decreased total ammo from 40 to 30
8) DMG:
a) Decreased total ammo to just 5
b) Ammo pick-up is just 1
9) Lightning Gun:
a)Ammo pick will be always 100
10) NEW!!! Napalm Gun
a) Damage is half from the Rail Gun
b) Increased total ammo from 40 to 60 ( is a "secret" gun so what the heck ?)
c) Increased slightly fire-rate
Since the weapons are stronger in the Reborn mod, I decided to make the pick up ammo value less but at the same time I tweaked the fire-rate, clip-size, total ammunition,
spread and damage to balance out and make every single weapon more useful and unique. At least that was my purpose.Whenever I achieve it or not, remains to be seen.
The Napalm Gun was the only one that was untouch by the mod because of the much later patch.
Thanks and Best Regards,
Nightmarekiller
PART 2: INSTALLATION
Simply drag the folder "q4r_v2_Nightmare" (not the "q4rv2_Nightmare" folder) into your Quake 4 Folder. Do NOT drag it into your q4base. Start up Quake 4 and select the
"MODS" tab, look for "Quake 4 Reborn Version 2 (Nightmare)". Select this and have fun! Please note that Quake 4 will re-start to initalize the mod, it should only take a
second at most.
PART 3: UN-INSTALLATION
Simply delete the "q4r_v2_Nightmare" folder to un-install.
PART 4: LISCENSE/CREDITS
A big thanks to Murphy and David, both of you gave me a big hand with my modding. Also, I'd like to say a prayer in Larry's memory. I hope he's in a better
place now. He was a valuble asset to the modding community and a good man as far as I'm concerned. Feel free to use this mod as you see fit, just credit me
and let me know of what you're doing with it, my email is eotcrew@gmail.com
PART 5: DISCLAIMER
I take no resposibility for any damage or trouble this mod causes you. Do not whine to me about anything. If you have suggestions, thats nice, but don't try
and sue me when you delete half your PC's files trying to un-install my mod :P

Yeap, the Napalm Gun is also been tweaked for the first time
Yeah should work on the latest version!
Awesome seeing some involvement with this game even this far after its release.
Will this work alongside Sikkmod visuals?
I don't know but I would like to know !!! Logically it should because is just tweaking the weapons and nothing more. Is not graphics enhancer. If you try it, let me know. BTW before you do that I suggest to copy the entire Quake 4 folder just in case something goes wrong.
For me it's not working. I have the Steam version 1.4.2. Placed the folder into the Quake 4 folder no q4base and loaded it up in the Mods tab but nothing changed. :/
Did you read the description and checked if really nothing changed ? If that is true then is weird, I have and checked the retail version not Steam though.
It just cross my mind but the reason it might not working is because is a double folder maybe ? It must be the "q4r_v2_Nightmare" and NOT the "q4rv2_Nightmare"
I placed the q4r_v2:Nightmare folder so it's the right one but still not working. Altrought the Quake 4 Reborn Version 2 (Not Nightmare) is working.
I don't know what to say, I just downloaded and tested and is working fine.
Since you mention that the original mod is working, let's try this:
open the "q4r_v2_Nightmare" folder and copy the file "def.pk4" ONLY and replace the original one.
If that is not working either, then I really don't know.
For the people wondering why is not working I made a terrible mistake, I pack it up twice the def.pk4. To fix this EXTRACT the def.pk4 using 7zip or winrar and delete the previous one and replace it with the one you extracted and that should fix it.
I tested also with the latest GOG version and is working fine.

Hello. I know that this is a bit of an old mod already, and I don't know how relevant the game is to you to this day, but if I may ask, does this work with the 1.4.3 version on GoG? Do I need to download Q4 Reborn Version 2 and install it alongside this version? I've tried playing it and I've selected Quake 4 Reborn but while playing I experienced no difference in gameplay to that of the original game.
I'd also like to know if you know if Quake 4 mods are being "taken care of" so to speak to this day. Know if it's safe to download mods of the old days, you see?
Anyways, Thanks for your time.
PS: If you see a comment that looks exactly the same like this one, then it's because I tried commenting as a Guest. Apologies.
it's working even with the latest version of GOG
I noticed you removed reloading for the Railgun.
Do you think you could release a mod which only does one thing:
remove reloading for all the guns (?)
I think it would really help the pace of the game.
If not, could you point me in the right direction for doing it myself?
Thanks!
hey, I know I already asked this last year,
but how did you remove reloading for the Railgun,
and can it be done for all weapons?
I am terribly sorry that I didn't reply to you all these years, I was busy in real life and had less time to play. Also if you just send me a private message I could easily respond you.
Anyways the method to remove reload system is the following:
1)Right-click on the def.pk4 and choose 7zip, open archive
2)Go to def/weapons and choose any weapon that you want to edit/change. For example choose nailgun.def and right-click again and choose Edit and it will open with notepad
3) Now search for the "clipSize" and turn the number value to 0
4) close the notepad and choose to save your changes, another message will appear that the file has been modified, choose again yes and you should be ready to enjoy
Thanks for the reply!
But I've tried this before and I couldn't get it to work.
I did the same kind of thing in Doom 3 and it worked fine.
Are these the .pk4 files you're referring to?:
D:\GOG stuff\Quake 4 - files\Quake 4\q4base\pak001.pk4\def\weapons\
I went in, changed the values to what I wanted,
went into the game, started a new game, used “give all” to get everything,
and nothing changed. It's all just like vanilla.
I went back into the file to check if it had reverted,
and no, it's stayed the way I put it,
but the game is just ignoring it completely.
I tried on both the Steam and GOG versions. Same thing.
Any ideas?
So you are trying to edit the original files, I strongly suggest you to BACKUP those files first before you try any changes. You see the weapons such as the nailgun exist in the following pk4 files:
pak001.pk4,pak015.pk4,pak020.pk4,pak022.pk4.
My guess that there many and separate ones is most probably of the upgrades, as far I could tell the nailgun actually has 3 upgrades+the main weapon.
For example if you want the non-upgraded nailgun to shoot without reloading, you must edit the pak022.pk4(I think all of the weapons there are the non-upgraded ones)
I too used to edit/tweak Doom 3 files and it was much easier, the difference is because in Doom 3 there aren't upgrades.
Thanks for the info.
I identified all the files which have each of the weapons.
I.imgur.com
However, pak001 isn't read-only, but pak015 appears to be.
So when I close/save the file
it offers to save it as a txt file on my desktop.
How do I stop this read-only-style behaviour inside a pak?
That's not a problem, make any changes you want with the pak015.pk4 and save them outside. When you are done just select all the files you edited and DRAG them inside the pak015.pk4\def\weapons\ while you have it open with 7zip. Overwrite them and you are done
That's a lot of paks for each weapon, I suggest you start with the pak022 in which I believe is the one that has the non-upgraded weapons, after that I suggest you to check and make changes 1 by 1. I don't believe you actually need to edit 4 shotgun files to make the reload. You just have to find the right pak to make changes
Thanks!
Yeah it turns out you can do basically everything you'd want to do from pak022.
That's been a great help. I've changed loads of stuff I've wanted to change for the past 17 years.
I removed all reloading from all weapons, I removed the Machinegun's screen shake and halved its spread, I slightly reduced the Shotgun's spread, I added more bounce to the Grenade Launcher, I removed the Nailgun's screen shake, I added an additional bounce to the HyperBlaster mod's projectile, I reduced the Railgun's firing delay, and I doubled the speed of the Rocket Launcher's projectile. It's great!
Coincidentally I also found out how to change aiming sensitivity to whatever you want, only while aiming/zooming in.
I'm still trying find a way to make all enemies tougher by reducing the damage they take to 0.8x
But the thing bothering me most right now is, how to make my commands like “g_fov 100” stick permanently.
Currently they reset after any kind of loading.
Any ideas?
The best way to do it, is to open the Quake4Config and at the very end add this line:
seta g_fov "100"
close it and save it and that should do it
Basically any console command option you change in the game is temporary until a new level loads, if you add it in the Quake4Config it will stay active all the time.
An example is that the players running speed is slow for me so I use the console command: pm_speed 200(default is 160), if I want this option to stay active all the time I have to add it in the Quake4Config. Kepp in mind though that when you transform to strogg that should change.
Question:
You said that you can do anything from pak022, isn't that only the non-upgraded weapons ? when you upgraded your weapons, won't you loose all the changes you had made ?
don't you need to edit other pak files too ?
Also the lightning gun is the only weapons that I cannot remove the screen shake, any ideas ?
For the people wondering why is not working I made a terrible mistake, I pack it up twice the def.pk4. To fix this EXTRACT the def.pk4 using 7zip or winrar and delete the previous one and replace it with the one you extracted and that should fix it.
I tested also with the latest GOG version and is working fine.
