This is a tool that automates creating NAM text files for importing textures into the NOD engine
Tool created by Rotom. Mirrored here for archival purposes.
Welcome to the first release of the NAMtool. I created this tool in order to save both myself and others lots of time trying to get their custom textures into Embrace.
What does it do?
All textures associated with Vampire use the Targa format (file extension .tga) and have an associated .nam file that tells the game how to present the textures. NAMtool simply takes the texture and creates a .nam file for it so that it can be utilized in the Embrace level editor. This .nam file is a text file that contains keywords. NAMtool only writes the 'texture' keyword for a basic texture. Others will be added at a later date.
How do I use it?
Upon starting NAMtool you should see 4 boxes. The topmost one on the left is where you select the drive where your files are stored. Below it are the folders in that drive. On the right is the list of .tga files that NAMtool has found. Click on a texture or drag to select multiple textures (shift-click and control-click work as well). Then hit the Add NAM Files button down below and NAMtool will write the .nam files into the selected directory.
Any problems I should know about?
NAMtool is beta software, so use it at your own risk. The program does not currently check to see if a .nam file exists before it writes one. There is no abort or undo function either. It is recommended that you place all textures you wish to incorporate into a level inside a separate folder in the Materials folder. The program will only let you select .tga files so there is no risk of it overwriting anything else in your system.
I am releasing it now so that I can get user feedback on what people like about the program and anything they would like to see added, changed, etc.
The Visual Basic 5 runtimes must be installed on your machine in order for the program to work. At this point I have no idea if the VB6 runtimes let you run NAMtool. This is one part I need tested. :)
