For whatever reason, Pandemic decided to create new Mos Eisley ground textures for the PC version of the game. They look pretty awful, so I hex-edited the Xbox version textures into the stock Mos Eisley map. Big thanks to SleepKiller for his unmunge tool, which made the hex-editing a million times easier.
It would have been easier just to rebuild the map from scratch, but certain maps can't be rebuilt properly because the assets Pandemic shipped with ModTools don't actually match what's in the game. If you rebuild Mos Eisley, for example, you'll notice that shadows near bases 2 and 5 have a tendency to flicker and distort.
As of version 6, I've restored the original map boundaries from the console versions, so you can now walk on top of the buildings connecting bases 1 and 2 without running into any annoying invisible walls.
To install, replace the stock tat2.lvl file in ".../gamedata/data/_lvl_pc/tat" with mine. Be sure to make a backup of the original, in case you ever want to switch back.
Thank you for this! Mos Eisley is one of my favourite SWBF2 maps, yet I always hated how low res it felt (mostly because of the ground textures). Now it's the way it should've been since the beginning!
Glad you like it ;) you probably already know this, but using just 2x or 4x anisotropic filtering makes ground textures look infinitely better.
Thanks for the tip. I actually never bothered to play around with anisotropic filtering, so I'll check it :D
This was a much needed upgrade. I've played Mos Eisley on Xbox extensively, so when I went to play it on PC I was shocked it didn't look as good.
Thanks! I'm glad someone else think so. So many of the PC changes were really bizarre. Oh and while this download is current, it doesn't link to my other fixes >.< which can be found here: Moddb.com
