Description

This is a simple mod that fixes a few sound problems in the vanilla game. The Unofficial 1.3 patch is a requirement, of course. Huge thanks to Marth for extracting and uploading SWBF1's sound effects.

Finally, a mod that change the stock game sounds. My god, if you can change all the stock player hurt/die voice and blaster sounds to more "modern like" that would be epic. Nice Job

Dont suppose there could be 3-8 for the scripts I already have a few and I would have to get rid of one for this to work

A wonderful wonderful sound fix but I do have a few suggestions as to what could possibly come next if you plan to update it:
- Imperial Officer VOs? Just like in Homefront the Imperial officer actually had unique hurt/death sounds but was strangely not implemented. (Unsure if the VOs are in the files or are unique to homefront)

- Implementation of the EMP explosion sound of the Jet Trooper's EMP launcer? I know it's in the sound file as a /resource/ but it'd be cooler if it was implemented as well.

- Possible Ki-Adi-Mundi audio reimplementation? It's been done by Rayman before but it'd work better here if the volume of his voicelines were increased and included here as more of an all-encompassing sound fix

All in all what's presented has made SWBF2 just sound a lot better even though it's extremely minuscule fixes, the sniper rifle sounds make me incredibly nostalgic and i'm happy to have them back. If you plan to keep working on this, then that's what I personally think should be added

Thanks for the feedback - I believe the Homefront officer VO is from another game, so it's outside the scope of this project. Unfortunately, Rayman is a million times the scripter I am :/ you're probably better of using his fix(es). Actually implementing the EMP sound/visual effect might be possible using only a userscript, but it would be much easier to do via custom sides. I've thought about uploading my sides here - which also contain a number of small fixes - but I feel like most people would prefer to use HarrisonFog's. What do you think? If enough people care, I'll post my side files.

Sylverium here but im on mobile and i’m too lazy to log in
What kinda changes/fixes are in the sides?
I think there are quite a few swbf purists who’d more than enjoy a touched up vanilla sides mod
A little bit of a shame about the suggestions though, but this fix on its own is already really solid

The changes are:

SWBF1 EMP visual effect

Fett jetpack effect fixed (no longer comes out of a random place)

Super Battledroid actually used SBD explosion chunks

Droid Trifighter uses the proper bumpmap texture

Better looking lasers/closer to canon

Hoth Rebel Vanguard no longer uses low-resolution texture

Aayla now has a purple saber to match the campaign cinematics (might not include this one - depends what people think)

That sounds pretty good actually, I feel like it wouldn't hurt to post it on moddb
Im not fully sure about this myself but based on how I believe Skin Changer works it's probably fully possible to implement at least a few of these into scripts
I've always wanted a bug fix mod and im sure others agree as well, if you work at it im almost certain you could create your own "unofficial patch", but maybe not under that name lol

Not sure if this is what you're going for but would it be possible to also restore Temuera Morrison's clone dialogue from BF1? The "we've captured/lost a command post!" or the various lines the clones said in that game when running around as opposed to the generic "stormtrooper" sounding clones & deeper voiced 'commander' who declares a captured/lost command post in BF2. I miss hearing the actual clone voice.

That's actually a really good idea. Unfortunately, there's no CTF/campaign dialog that could be transferred over from bf1, but that's not a total dealbreaker imo. I'll look into it for sure.

Yeah, the only dialogue I can think of off the top of my head is the command post-related dialogue and the follower command stuff like hold, follow, move out, etc. If other dialogue remains BF2 vanilla, that's not a problem for me. It's just weird that Morrison is such a prominent voice in the campaign and in BF1, but all of the in-game dialogue was replaced with generic voices that don't even attempt to mimic his voice.

So I've got everything working, but it will take a long time to finish. Lots of copying and pasting. Thanks again for the idea - the nostalgia from Morrison's VOs is almost too much to handle lol.

Oh my gosh, you have no idea how this made my day! Definitely no rush, but I'm excited to see it in action!

And right? It's been a long time since we've heard Morrison as the clones. Baker's basically been the de facto clone voice since 2008, so it's nice to hear the true voice again.

Alrighty, let me know what you think. Although I didn't do the most thorough testing, it *should* work as intended. SWBF2 is pretty picky when it comes to sound modding, though, so there might be problems on some maps. Also, I decided to 'mute' most of the stock clone VO for the sake of consistency.

Oh my gosh, it's awesome! Hearing Morrison's VO was so cool. "Follow me!"

I do agree with your readme/howtoinstall that it feels a little 'bare' but it's still really, really cool. I think some Dee Bradley Baker lines from the new games could offset that a bit since at least he attempts the accent unlike the guys from BF2 or the Microseries, or even any Boba lines that fit the clones, but I also know there are issues with lifting lines from the new games, or other sources for that matter, but I guess some are okay? Regardless, it's really cool as it is and adding more isn't necessary whatsoever.

That said, I think I have another mod that added in some... cut VO lines maybe? Because I DO still have the vanilla announcer saying things like "So & So has entered the battle!" + slightly extended comments about the character that I don't remember being in the game. Not sure which mod does this, but it makes it a bit less bare since the original VO will comment about the heroes while Morrison discusses their reinforcements/command posts. This actually works for me since we know the Republic had officers like Yularen, Tarkin, etc. who weren't clones so it's easy enough to chalk it up to that.

The only other bummer, which isn't in any way your fault, is that BF2 has no way of letting me tell my men to hold position haha! Thank you for this! I'll play around with this installed a bit more in the coming days and let you know if I run into any weird issues!

The Temuera Morrison idea was really cool and I wonder if you're going to extend the whole restoring classic VOs thing for the other factions? While there may not be as high a demand it would definitely help with consistency's sake. The inclusion of the extra soundscripts is a good step in the right direction. Like I said, just that bit closer to being an all-encompassing audio fix that I could 100% see being a must have just because it's so lightweight (only 2 files in the original installation) and does what no one's tried before, especially with the sniper audio restoration.

And to add on to this, i'm not sure if you've already done this as my testing hasn't been the most thorough. If it's not much of a bother, maybe replace as many voice lines as possible? I'm not entirely sure if you've also done the "get in, get out, halt vehicle" voice lines in the Temuera clone VOs, if you haven't and you do the other factions then that'd be a great place to start incorporating as many voice lines as you can (without breaking things or repeating voice lines of course) as you could overhaul all the voice lines to the more classic style.
Also im unsure if the clone hurt/death VOs are the same as the classic VOs, so that might be something to look into.

OH YEAH and also the starting Galactic Conquest battle "enemy has X bonus" would be cool if you haven't added those as well
Like the "the enemy has been injected with extra bacta serum" from the Rebellion's classic VOs

Would it be possible to restore the hurt sounds for heroes and villains?

Hey, thanks for continuing to update these fixes! I'd suggest either: !) posting future updates as separate files on a new mod page instead of updating this file; or 2) make it obvious on this page that there has been an update, as I just happened to come across the 1.3 update by pure coincidence. More people should be on top of this mod, it's essential!

lol yeah you're definitely right. I probably should have learned what I was doing with moddb before uploading/updating this thing. Do you think it would be kinda scummy if I just... deleted this file and re-uploaded it? I wouldn't want it to look like I'm just trying to keep it at the top of the "files" section, but I should let people know I've updated it o.O

I don't know if you can merge this file into a new Mod page, but if you can't, I'd say go ahead and reupload it. Not only do I think it deserves the visibility, but I think making a new page would be a valid reason to do so.
