The progress is slow but it is moving ahead. Also, I will post whatever progress I make on this expansion here in this forum, so keep checking here.

What things have I done with the fourth map? I added fences to keep the red eyes from attacking all at once. There are several red-eyed zombies in the area and the only weapons you have are the pump-shotgun, the bull-pup (LMG - light machine gun), and the ampoules.




And, as usual, I'll keep you updated as I get things done. Plus, you will see a NEWS post when I get a major completion on a map.

Continuation -- January 17, 2013 (Thursday)

Well, I am adding more screenshots of map 4 for OOH Expanded. I added fences to enclose the starting area to keep the player out of reach of the red eyes.


I then added a canopy, a surface bunker that I will use later.


Below you'll see the passageways that I placed in the side as enclosures for the red eyes.


Then up top, you'll see the powerlines going to the warehouse. Nothing but cosmetics.


It takes a while to make the map run flawlessly, but we're getting there.

I would like to deal with more complex matter on my maps, like triggers, counters, scripted triggers and more but it would take several tutorial threads. So suffice it to say, I used several of them (mostly borrowed from Chicken+Ribs) in these maps.

CONTINUATION: January 18, 2013 (Friday)

I have worked on the 4th map some more. I placed several triggers, switches, path nodes for routes and detours going to the EXIT LEVEL. I took a couple of screenshots while testing the completed sections of a part of the map. The red-eyed zombies trying to catch my read from the picket fence.



Below are pictures of the almost completed map 4. You'll see several path nodes, triggers, switches, a hangar and routes.



As soon as the 4th map gets done, I shall post the download link for the WIP OOH Expanded maps.

CONTINUATION:
DATE - January 27, 2013 (Sunday) -- The map that was previous to this coming one is finished. Now I am working on map 8. I was thinking as I was working on the maps that I needed a story line. I started doing the maps at random, but now that I am moving along with the maps, it would only be right that I should have a narrative come with the expansion. I might look into zombie movies to derive my plot. I want to develop an overall picture for the expansion. Any suggestion is welcome. I mentioned in one of the maps, map 7 of a virus and infecteds (another name for the undeads) or as Chicken+Ribs calls them, coverteds. I am thinking of Resident Evil type plot where the population got infected by a virus. How that virus got spread around and how it got started. I am also thinking of Half Life 2 story mode. Maybe a good place to start as the how and where is a genetic research plant.

There is a side effects (down side) to this idea. This means that I have to make revisions to the maps and the dialogues.

WALKTHROUGH: I am thinking of give a map overview of each map starting with map 1. The expansion starts out with our character, Mahl Leacius, getting ready to gear up and go attend to some matters that was ordered by HQ. The task was to first turn the switches by the encampment to power up the locality. As soon as the power comes on, he had to check out the eerie activities in the nearby hotel. Then he was told to get to the pick up point by the heliport.

Then we come to map 2. Here, Mahl, our character, is dropped off at a certain district to oversee the area. Having seen a few signs of movements from the helicopter, he decided to check out the perimeter only to find the town deserted except for a few infecteds. He then gets a message from Sarge that he needs to go to the hangar and help clean up (or clear the area of infecteds) there. He realizes that the only way to the hangar is by the gate powered by the main generator. But the generator doesn't have any batteries to prime it. So he has to go look for the batteries in the storage hallway.

CONTINUATION:
DATE - January 30, 2013 (Wednesday) -- MAIN CHARACTER. Chicken+Ribs had as his main character, an police officer named Donovan Ling. In this expansion, the main character's name is Mahl Leacius. He is a good friend of Donovan. But unlike Donovan, he is a gum shoe (a detective). The strange thing is they look so much alike as if they were twins. Our story started with Mahl getting a call from Sarge to check out a reported strange activities in a nearby hotel.

But before Mahl can do anything, he needed to do a few things. The switches by the blue dividers have to be turned on to open the remote doors and power up the lifts. So off he went. But as he turned the switches on, he encounters his first group of infecteds. Having survived the bout, he heads over to the hotel and is confronted by more infecteds and an unusual kind of undead, a live ghoul in the form of a mist.

DATE - January 31, 2013 (Thursday) -- I made more changes in map 8. I added an enclosure at the starting point to give the player a starting chance so as not to get overwhelmed by the infecteds.


Thus ends the first installment of OOH Expanded. The following maps will be allotted separately. For instance, map 9 will come in a single package or sets of packages. We'll determine the best way after map 9.

CONTINUATION:
DATE: Febraury 1, 2013 -- Once again yours truly has redone the latest map, map 8, and included it in the package. Now I am off to the next episode of the story line, namely map 9. In map 8, the player is plunged to a dreaded situation where he is forced to confront his worst nightmare - unbathed undeads. And plenty of them. With all the confusion back at headquater, Sarge manage to slip out undetected by both you and the infecteds. But somehow you manage to track his footsteps and was able to follow him past the kennel and into the woods. Once he got there he was faced with a huge dilemma. Luckily, he was inside an enclosure. However he went decimating the infecteds, he will be taken to where it all began, the Petticoat junction.

CONTINUATION:
DATE: February 2, 2013 (Saturday) -- I am watching the zombie movie, "28 Weeks Later", and it is really good. They have 3 actors that I know, Jeremy Renner (who played the Bourne Legacy), then there is Rose Byrne, and Harold Perineau from The Matrix.

TIME: 10:42AM -- I am now watching "Diary of the Dead" by George Romero and Grunwald. I have been trying to make up a story on my OOH Expanded extension for Chicken+Ribs mod. I am thinking of making map 9, the map that I am presently working on, the revelation part of the story line. The chemical that contains the virus is being transported by means of the railway. Then it got derailed and the chemical leaked out in the air. To make things worst, it leaked out in a nearby food processing plant.

CONTINUATION:
DATE: February 12, 2013 (Tuesday) -- I have been working on map 9 and have added the plot by means of triggers, added blocking volumes, and spawns.


The plot on this map tells what happened and from where. The player finds out about the accident that started it all.

DATE: February 23, 2013 (Saturday) -- What to make of the next map? I am thinking of using this map, map 10, to help the player to see just where the other zombies come from and how they got to be the way they are. Most of the undeads are transformed when infected. They still have human features. But there are the translucent ones that are of unusual origin. Call them what you may, but these invisible zombies or shadow zombies and ones that are infected and are electrified causing their molecular structure to behave irregularly expanding when they disappear, and contracting/compacting when they re-appear.

Rumor has it that these shadow zombies came from a certain research facility, where they were suppose to be handling operation Orange Uglad.
