In 1994, Dan Bradley approached Tom Hehre in college with the idea to create an online, graphical game. Over time, as they created this game, the idea occurred to them that instead of building their dream game, they should build a platform to allow others to build their own dream game. From this, DUNG was born. (DanTom's Universal Network Game). Eventually, seeing as DUNG isn't the best name for really anything, BYOND was created around the year 2000.
