The Triad forces barricaded themselves in a canyon that's cut off from the outside world. They have a robot that can shoot down any aircraft. You don't even have an aircraft due to budget cuts. What you do have is General Darian's digging equipment. Time to "resurface" like he did and make them scream!
Changes from Realms Deep 2021 Release:
- Fixed a bug where falling in the certain spot of the pit near the Gold Key didn't kill the player;
- The door of the house with Gold Key can now be opened from the inside;
- Fixed a bug with collision of aforementioned door: now it's possible to enter after it's opened for the first time;
- Added more shadows;
- Minor fixes of missing and misaligned textures;
- Added statistics screen to the end of the level;
- Added an exit that leads to Return of the Triad secret level;
- Cleaned up the file structure: removed compiled script of original level 1 and entries of original Return of the Triad maps from ZMAPINFO.txt.
Installation and launch:
Return of the Triad is a free game that runs on GZDoom engine. If you already have Return of the Triad
installed, skip to step 4.
- Download the game here: Moddb.com
- Download the GZDoom engine here: Zdoom.org
- Extract both downloaded archives to the same folder, for example C:\Games\Return of the Triad
- Extract the files rott_screamtriad.pk3 and rott_screamtriad.bat to the folder where you extracted
the game and the engine.
- Run rott_screamtriad.bat.
- In the main menu, choose "New Game", choose the character you'd like to play as, then choose
"Episode 2: Return of the Triad", then preferred difficulty.
Short but a sweet and solid looking map, it feels like a proper custom level for the first time ever (I think). I'm really surprised that there isn't any user-made maps for Return of the Triad for a long, long time until I found it today despite it was released 4 months ago. This is a blessing thing to behold, Although I wonder if there would be a full fledged custom mapset/episode someday.
I'm very happy to know you were looking for Return of the Triad maps and eventually found it. I'm surprised that there are no custom maps and episodes too. There are a lot of great mapsets for original Rise of the Triad, and Return is basically the same thing, but without limitations of the wolf3d engine. Even developers did everything in their power to make it happen: they released source files of scripts that are used throughout all levels, such as the HUD one, and still there's nothing.
Yeah, I think the real issue is that people just simply forget about Rise of the Triad in general. That may not say the same for Return of the Triad for granted but, who really knows which both could already have same fate. Quite frankly, Return of the Triad is superior thanks to ZDoom/GZDoom engine and having more freedom to make actual maps or heck, new actual content from ranging to enemies to guns.
Maybe someday in the future, I could make some but perhaps, time will tell since I have some plate to deal with for heretic.
