This addon aims to vastly decrease the "bullet sponge" effect and making the game more realistic by adjusting such things as damage values.
This addon was made with Mmod in mind, but it's compatible with every Half-Life 2 games and campaign mods
- Difficulty damage multipliers and damage values have been adjusted, you will inflict a lot more damage to enemy NPCs and headshots are more deadly
- The player will also take more damage to balance gameplay
- AI fear has been enabled when their health is low, and reaction time has been slightly increased to make enemies behave more realistically
You can choose 4 different options to determine how hardcore you want your game to be.
Changelogs:
- Added "Old player armor" option
What does it do: This reverts Armor to HL1 system which will reduce all incoming damage by 33% and then the armor will absorb about 66% of the reduced damage. In short, it makes armor more durable.
- Added "1:1 damage values" option
What does it do: It means the armed NPCs deal the same damage as players, increasing the difficulty even further. To balance this. the amount of HP/Armor you get from Medkits/Batteries/Recharge Stations have been increased. The armor gain in the "Old player armor" remains untouched or marginally decreased.
- Reduces pushback of weapons and slowed down ragdolls a bit, makes them look more realistic
- Decreased SMG max ammo capacity by 45
- Decreased Shotgun max ammo capacity by 12
- Decreased Pistol max ammo capacity by 24
- Pistol now deals less damage as it's based on the USP, which uses 9mm bullets
- SMG now deals more damage as it's based on the MP7, which uses 4.6x30mm bullets
- Increased Revolver max ammo capacity by 6
- Fixed missing definitions for Tau Cannon and AR3 machine gun
This is the final version of this addon, it has been thoroughly tested in the base game and several other singleplayer mods.
If you have any suggestion on how to improve this addon, please let me know! :)
Including a quick install guide would help.
You install it by putting it into the custom folder if you do not have one create one.
I think everybody knows how to install addons for Half-Life 2 by now.
Just put the "custom" file into one of the Mmod directory if you might be playing other campaign mods with it aswell.
Hi, I haven't done any modding in a good 9-10 years.
Do I put the "my_custom_stuff" folder into the "custom" folder?
What is "AI fear"? How does it work?
My guess is that when an NPC gets damaged enough they will attempt to run away.
When they have low HP they will try to run away
Ahh, this is reminiscent to HL1's Vort when they're in critical health. Nice one.
I love how MMod is turning out to be.
At this point, you're doing yourself a disservice to play HL2 without. It's the best way to play it IMO.
Can't help but disagree. It's no disservice to play the game as it was released.
dont get me wrong, i love MMod i think it's really fun, but i think, especially if it was someones first time playing HL2, it should be vanilla.
I just want SMod back, S mod plus M mod...
S&M Mod.
Assuming that won't happen, this'll have to do, thanks.
You're welcome :)
can you make more prefabs
plsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplsplspls
sounds nice, I'll give it a try
heh :P
Is this also on Gamebanana?
No but there are similar stuff like this
Ok, so the order that you install these mods in if you have the 12 gauge addon is:
12 Gauge mod
Realistic Damage regular
Realistic Damage 12 Gauge addon
I think?
1. 12 Gauge Mod
2. Realistic Damage 12 Gauge addon
So if it asks to overwrite, I do? Great, thanks!
Edit: (NVM, Dumb Question)
Do you mind if I ask you what the bullsquid and ichthyosaur health are for?
Oh yeah, also with the 12 gauge addon and your compatibility install, on hard difficulty I find the combine shotgunner way too overpowered, both with single and double shot. tweaking npc buckshot damage doesn't do much. Any help?
Sorry, no
Increased recoil would be nice, always felt as if it had a bit too low recoil.
Increasing recoil would be pointless since the game uses a spread system
As I said, I don't think it would if it helps gunplay. Just because a gun spreads doesn't mean it can't kick. Spread isn't well presented, either, at least I don't think.
Can you verify that RDA works when another skill.cfg is present within custom subfolders? I noticed that I couldn't alter ammo capacity within RDA's skill.cfg, but I could in the 12g autoloader skill.cfg. It got me thinking if hl2 was prioritizing one skill.cfg over another, and thus I wonder if the aforementioned shotgun addon could prevent RDA from being used. Apologies if this all sounds confusing.
Can confirm that if the 12g autoloader skill.cfg is present, the mod won't work, same goes for any skill.cfg that's present alongside RDA, so for anyone else that's curious, be sure to delete any skill.cfg that isn't included with RDA.
does ai fear apply to hunters as well
Nah
I can't seem to confirm if this mod is working, I feel no difference. I installed it as you said, too.
Enemies dying faster (Fast and Normal Headcrab Zombies dying from one shot from a spas-12, or Combine Overwatch Soldiers dying faster), along with your show that you installed the mod properly. If you wanna know how, extract the RDA23.rar file is extracted with 7Zip or WinRar, and place the "my custom stuff" folder is placed inside the "Custom" folder in the MMOD directory.
I would love a version for 1.3
Done
Oh, hey stalker. BTW nice mod, bástya! ;)
I love this addons.
Glad you like it :)
Only wish now for MMod is for someone to get MMod + SMOD Outbreak together. Good Job.
ty
The choppers are so hard to kill with this mod. They kill me in just 2 seconds whilst aiming. Other than that, it's really good.
Gunships are worse
is it possible for you to create a version of this for Black Mesa?
Seems like when using this Zombines (I'm unsure if other zombies suffer from the same issue, seems to happen mostly with those specifically) in certain campaign mods (Alongside MMOD btw) tend to immediately die upon rising up from the ground.. Not really sure why it happens.
A real shame as I found myself enjoying the addon a whole bunch ^^

I love the MMOD improvements, but on hard difficulty combine almost ignores unloading both barrels into its head from point blank. Not fun at all. I prefer more tactical combat and this mod delivers exactly that! Thank you!
So... Is the shotgun capacity increased or decreased? Description says it is decreased by 12, but in the game my shotgun holds 54 now. 😁
