Muzzle flash for Doom 3 (2019) (from Bethesda or XBox Game Pass PC)
DESCRIPTION
This small mod (based on the original work by Phrozo ) will add muzzle flash to Doom 3 (2019)*, including better smoke effects, particles, and bullet holes. I'm not one of those extreme modders and the 2019 edition for me is good enough as it is, but muzzle flash lighting up the corridors was a big miss, so I created the first mod (ever?) for a Game Pass PC game ;-)
*Doom 3 (2019) is the edition available from Bethesda Launcher, Epic, or XBox Game Pass PC, with a few differences in comparison to the previous BFG Edition (it's not the same!). Some of the changes vs BFG Edition are: a few bug fixes, no extras with the classic games, no multiplayer, no console (!), added dynamic shadows to flashlight, a few better textures and lights...
(Yes you can finally mod also Game Pass PC games (at least most of them...), since MS decided to let them be installed in standard paths (C:\XBoxGames\). Only game.exe is now r/w protected by DRM. You can modify or add/remove/overwrite files from the game installation directory, which is now easily accessible).
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Just copy the .resources file to "C:\XboxGames\DOOM 3\Content\base\". Loading an old savegame will fail: this mod/addon requires a new game.

A: No, this is a mod for Doom 3 (2019) edition from id Software / Panic Button. Read carefully above in the description.

1.5 - restored muzze flash also for non-players and tracing bullets in cutscenes

From my own video I noticed there was some sort of intermittent red laser beam sight while shooting with some weapons. Removed in version 1.2 coherently with original Doom 3 (2019), and because didn't look good. It was also useless since this edition already has an always on sight.

Have no idea. It has been tested only with Doom 3 (2019) for XBox Game Pass PC, which is a sort of BFG Edition Remastered.

Could this be made compatible with BFG Edition? I have the BFG Edition from GOG, and would very much like to add the muzzle flash back into the game.
You have to try other mods like Hi Def for the BFG edition.
With this mod can't pick up a shotgun neither in original Doom 3, nor in Lost Mission. Pistol and machine gun are OK, don't know about other weapons since did not go any further. Playing Epic Store release of Doom 3.
Without the mod they are picked up fine.
This mod adds very good graphical effect to shooting: muzzle flash + barrel smoke + accurate bullet holes (thought the holes are a bit to the right of the real hit point). But I have this problem as well, just checked it: "can't pick up a shotgun neither in original Doom 3, nor in Lost Mission". I see there is a shotgun in the video attached to the mod, but was it recordered with 1.3 currrently available or with previous versions?
Mmmh... have to check the shotgun thing, maybe 1.2 fix has broken it too. Thanks for reporting.
Okay. 1.4 Fixed picking up shotgun for the first time. Sorry, you probably have to restart a new game. If using an old savegame and you already have a working shotgun in your inventory, you shouldn't restart the level or the whole game because picking up ammo is ok. Not sure about armories with hanged shotguns though (from a savegame with mod 1.3)...
Anyway restarting a fresh new game with 1.4 will work fine for sure! 😉
The first level with the shotgun is "Mars City Underground: Union Aerospace Subsystems" (see video Youtu.be at 8:15)
Please, double check the other weapons and let me know in case (unlikely)...
Went as far as the chaingun on Doom 3 - so far pistol, shotgun, machine gun, grenades and chaingun are picked up well. Great job!
The other interesting issue is that flashes from enemies barrels dissappear: weapon shots lit the room but you see no fire coming out of the barrel. This is especially well seen during the intro of the Lost Mission.
None the less, this is a minor issue compared to the return of the muzzle flash.
And one more thing. It seems the shotgun fire is now more concentrated. I remember this weapon being useless even on middle range, but now it is quite deadly.

Yep, I adjusted shotgun fire a bit more to my taste, more realistic and deadly as it should be.
EDIT: the missing muzzle flash is just in the cinematics or you noticed the zombie marines have this issue too?
1.5 - restored muzze flash also for non-players and tracing bullets fx in cutscenes and while playing.

Finally finished the main campaign. No more glitches noticed, thank you. This mod returns one of the must-be featrures to Doom 3 and improves on it.
Good. Thanks for reporting the bugs above, especially the removed muzzle flash and tracing bullets issue in the intros and for in-game enemies in general I didn't notice 👍🏻
