This mod aims at making the game look right on wide screen displays. There is an existing aspect ratio fix available but it breaks the HUD, inventory, menu scale, etc, and doesn't include an option to increase the FOV. It also changes / improves a few other aspect of the game.
What does it do?
- Makes everything look right with 16:9 or 32:9 aspect ratio resolutions, including the main menu / HUD / inventory / etc
- increased FOV
- 'hanging on exit' fix
- head-bob motion changed
- jump height increased
- fixed the missing particle effects when shooting humans or metalic objects
Install instructions:
- Install the official 2.0 patch (if using the EU version of the game).
- Back up these files in the game directory:
- XENUS.EXE
- DX8RENDER.DLL
- VERENDER2.DLL
- GAME.DLL
- Copy all files from the 'base files - 16.9 aspect ratio' folder in to the game directory (for example C:\GAMES\BOILING POINT).
- If you want to use a 32:9 aspect ratio then copy the 'optional files for 32.9 aspect ratio' files over the base files.
- By default this patch uses a FOV of 105. If you want to use the original FOV of 90 then use the Xenus.exe in the 'original FOV' folder. Or for a FOV of 95, use Xenus.95.
- If you're using an Nvidia graphics card then consider importing the included .nip file via Nvidia Profile Inspector for better anti aliasing.
- Run Xenus.exe to play the game.
Version history
- 0.1: Initial release
- 0.2: Fixed some graphical issues and corrected the scaling of most inventory icons / character portraits
- 0.3: Corrected the character portraits in the 'known characters' dialog
- 0.4:
- Using the Russian 'Gold' version of the game files, which are supposed to be more stable than the 2.0 patch EU versions. I can't find any patch notes to support this though.
- A number of the fixes have been implemented in a safer way.
- 0.5:
- Adding 32:9 aspect ratio option
- Including an Nvidia profile which implements better anti-aliasing
- 0.6: Fixed the missing particle effects when shooting humans and metalic objects (cars, phone booths, etc)
Hey mate, is there any chance you could do a version for 32:9 aspect ratio ?
My Screen resolution is 3840x1080. I am desperately searching for a fix. I wanna play the game again! Also, is there a way to change the weapon FOV ? The Game looks really bad in 32:9^^
Hiya - hard to test this with a 16:9 monitor but try this and let me know how it goes:
Easyupload.io
This should look correct, including the weapons FOV. Driving inside vehicles is going to look very wrong at such a high aspect ratio but that would require new models so I can't fix that.
what should i even say.... thank you so much, it works !!
It looks awesome :)) THANK YOU

Thanks for letting me know I'll include it in the download, and thanks for the screenshot it looks excellent at that resolution! It's a great looking game and we finally have super computers that can run it properly 😂
BTW if you're using an Nvidia card then I've created a profile that adds nice AA, I'll include that in the patch too.
by the way, is there a chance you can do a fix like that for deepshadows' other game "precursors" ?
I would love to play that too. If you want, I can send you a donation for your troubles. I really wanna play it :D
Precursors uses the newer engine, same as White Gold. According to this you can edit an ini file to get ultra wide for WG and I'm assuming that this will work for Precursors too given they're the same engine: Wsgf.org
ohhh yes! I had no idea. Thank you! I will try it.
hello I reinstalled this on my rig I have a 4kscreen and i get an error at launch font size is too big do you have any idea how to fix this?
Never seen that before - what version of the game? US, EU? And have you patched it with the official update?

16:9 or 32:9 but not 21:9??
Guess I'll have to live with 16:9 it's better than 4:3 even though I have an ultra wide.
Also does your Xenus.exe include a no cd crack? Or how could one have both solutions at the same time?
Edit: Legal version from my original game disc
So... Boiling Point just got released on GOG. It seems to be somewhat updated, widescreen resolutions are there out of the box, but aspect ratio in the game is whack.
So, if the author is still around, I would humbly request for him to look into it and see if the patch needs updating.
I just tested the 16:9 files on the new release (launched today on both Steam and GOG) from Steam and it worked fine!
Yes, but it's based on an old version of the exe. If Ziggurat actually applied any 2.2 fixes to the new 2.0 GoG/Steam exe, that might screw it up. I'm gonna give it a try, though!
My thoughts exactly. I tried to run with the patch and game launched fine, with proper fov and aspect ratio. But indeed I don't know to what extent the game was updated on this release, and I don't know if I want to try playing through it like that.
If you guys do, please do tell me if you encounter issues.
I've had a look at the "2.2" files in the past and couldn't see any difference, and I couldn't ever find patch notes which explained the difference either. I concluded that the Gold "2.2" version was just a version of the game released in eastern Europe that included some random stuff, like fan made mods, etc. I don't think the devs actually updated anything in the executables.
Anyway, I'm interested to see this new version so will check it out (once it goes on sale :))
Nice job man, works fine with the Steam version too.
