I don't see it that way, a lot of people pass by addons aswell, so it is probably easier to find it here than in files. That's why i've uploaded it in the addons section.
The logic is when looking for a tool people go to tools.
Like when looking for "weapons" or "vehicles", people don't go to the "maps" section.
Add-ons section is for content to "add-on" to the game.
Following the format keeps things easy to find. Eventually this tool will be buried underneath Add-ons in a category unrelated. 🤷♂️ Making it harder to find because it is out of category.
If we want to put things where the most people will see it, then maybe we should start putting Battlefield 2 content in other more popular game sections on Moddb where more people look? Like "Mount and Blade" or "Half Life." 😜
Correct, in theory.
But take a look at the Files section and you'll see that it filled with all sorts of miscellaneous stuff.
You mention maps for example, well the files section is full of them, as well as complete mods such as: Firebird, Heat of Battle, Battleground 44, and many others. So we have mods under 'Mods' and mods under 'Files'.
"... But take a look at the Files section and you'll see that it filled with all sorts of miscellaneous stuff."
Yes. There is an hierarchy in the add-ons section.
Click on Add-ons, scroll down the main page, on the right hand side below "Popular Add-ons" window it shows the hierarchy. Maps/Models/Skins/Audio/Graphics and an assortment of sub-sections.
Add-ons features many different categories. My proposition to the author of this upload is that his upload is a tool, and people looking for tools would be more apt to find it there rather than in the wrong section.
"You mention maps for example, well the files section is full of them,"
There is actually an add-on category for maps.
" as well as complete mods such as: Firebird, Heat of Battle, Battleground 44,"
All those examples are actually in the correct category under mods/files. :\
So maps can be found under both 'Files' and 'Addons'. And mods can be found under both 'Files' and 'Mods'
Perhaps it's just the way my brain works, but it doesn't have a clear logic to me.
If 'Files' were just purely 'files' such as 'Level Renamer', and all those other odds and ends that are neither Mods nor Addons (e.g. vehicles, weapons, soldiers, etc.) then it might feel a bit more logical.
However, I'm just sharing my perspective because things that may have a logic to you after all these years of being involved on moddb may not appear clear or logical to others, especially if English is not their first language.
"However, I'm just sharing my perspective because things that may have a logic to you after all these years of being involved on moddb may not appear clear or logical to others, especially if English is not their first language."
I understand. English not being a first language can make things very confusing. English can be very confusing even to people who use it all the time.
I support you. Uploaders should respect the hierarchy.
When I am looking for addons I now have to scroll through a lot of maps. Maps should be under Maps. Mods under Mods.
For uploaders. Please respect the hierarchical database.
There is no map section, here. Maps are in addons section aswell, so if you find it better, you can always specify the addon type by clicking on the links on the right corner of the site "weapon model" for an example.
Forgive me Becker if I have angered you, I am only trying to help.
"There is no map section, here."
There is actually. "Add-ons" is divided into many different sections.
"...so if you find it better, you can always specify the addon type by clicking on the links on the right corner of the site "weapon model" for an example. "
Yes! Yes! Add-Ons has many sections. That is what I am trying to say. :)
Is it normal for it to mess up a map so as to have the map missing buildings and textures? Renamed Basras Revenge and an important building was just gone when i played. Map still worked but it was weird.
That's very strange, for me the renamer is working normally, but just in case, always make a backup of the map you are going to rename.
Edit: I just used the tool to rename a vanilla map to "map_test" on another pc and it worked as it was intended to, i even checked the files to see if there was anything not there but also no file was missing, i even played it and no static was missing too.
Thanks for uploading anyway, even if I don't personally need it.
New modders really need to be encouraged to come up with original ideas, and this tool could help them! :-)
This is a great tool, I've had it for years.
All of Bergerkiller's tools should be available on Moddb. 👍
The level renamer is a tool.
It should be in files/tools/mapping tool
Putting it in addons might cause people that actually need it to not find it.

So perhaps the whole system needs an overhaul?

Ibb.co
Tools are in a different section.
Moddb.com
In the "Files" section of BF2 Scroll down on the right and in window it has
.Releases
.Media
.Tools
.Miscellaneous
.Addons
A map renaming program would help people looking for tools. :)
You don't need to apologise dude, i understand your point of view.
Is it normal for it to mess up a map so as to have the map missing buildings and textures? Renamed Basras Revenge and an important building was just gone when i played. Map still worked but it was weird.
It's a program tool that allows one to rename a map and all it's contents. Makes the process easy and fast.
This way you can have multiple versions of a map in the same install by renaming them.
Try it with a vanilla map for example. I have used it many times and never had problems.
It usually works, but I once renamed vanilla Strike at Karkand and found that my ai pathfinding files were missing in the newly renamed map!
When I realised why the bots weren't going anywhere I moved them over manually and it worked fine.
Anyway, I'd want to apologise for this mess, next time i upload a file here in Moddb, i'll make sure it is in the right place.
Thanks for uploading anyway, even if I don't personally need it.
