This is a texture pack that modifies the game The Lord of the Rings - Battle for Middle-Earth. It is based on other great mods and combines them to make them compatible and to get the best visuals from each. Please read the description for details.
Dear LotR BfME Fans :)
I was playing the game since it was released. But I wasn't playing it for some years now, till 2-3 days ago, as I rediscovered it. I had it much more beautyful in mind and so directly searched for a texture mod. As also you, I found these two mods:
HD Texture Building 1.1 by MrStafflink Moddb.com
and
BFME 1 HD Edition V1.0 by RiderOfRohan Moddb.com
I tried both and liked both a lot. So at first thanks to these modders and all involved people for theire work.
But both mods where lacking the content of the other one and the content which existed in both of them was once better in one and in the next case in the other one. It comes in addition that they are not compatible to each other and you had to make a hard decision which of them you like to play.
For example the HD Edition 1.0 had awesome characters, with a very realistc look. The Texture Building 1.1 had characters too, but for my taste with a not so realistic and too colorful look. But it contained some characters that had not been touched by the HD Edition 1.0 and those where still better than the originals.
This twists as it comes to the buildings and ground textures. The Texture Building 1.1 changes much more at this topic than the HD Edition 1.0 does, but again this is not so easy to say, as it changes the 3D models and ads more polygones to some buildings.
So none of these two, basically great, mods are perfect. Both have theire partially strengths and weaknesses. I hope that you can empathize the trouble in which I was, but don't desperate! I made the solution :D
I merged both mods into one and no, it was not just copying two folders into each other ;) This took some hours of checking every single file and testing it.
It works now without any strange visuals and I would say that you get the best from both mods combined in my release. I tested it with friends in a multiplayer round at patch 1.0.3 and also the fan patch 1.0.8.
After some adjustments, some swapped files and a rebuilded asset.dat file it works now, as far as we could see, without any mistakes.
I hope you enjoy it and let me know if you find a bug.
Just for fun you can test the difference between both mods when you download and install them seperated. You should check than the Harradrim warriors and some units with upgraded armor.
HOW TO INSTALL:
1. Copy the " _z_Kallis_BfME_texture_pack.big " file into this folder C:\Users\PLACEHOLDER\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth Files
2. Create a link to the lotrbfme.exe of your game. For example it could be located here: D:\Games\Battle for Middle-earth
3. Open the settings of the just created link and add, for example, this command in the target section: -mod "C:\Users\PLACEHOLDER\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth Files\_z_Kallis_BfME_texture_pack.big"
4. Save the changes of the link and start your game. Just begin a quick skirmish round and you will immediately see the huge difference compared to the original :)
