Cyborg Jump & Weapon Swap Sound Replacement
I always liked being the cyborg characters better (you can choose your character in options -> multiplayer -> player configuration..., and it effects singleplayer too), but the noise they make when they jump is this awful distorted hiss that hurts my ears. So about seven years ago or so (prior to upload) I grunted into a cheap microphone a few times and modulated the best clip until it sounded close enough to the rest of the character's sounds but significantly easier on the ears. I only thought to upload it publicly today.
I also changed the weapon swap sound added by the Re-Release to a much more gentle and quicker "swoosh" sound similar to the hand grenade throw noise rather than the "swinging a whole car around like it's a baseball bat" effect that somehow passed through Nightdive's QA team without objection.
I know it's bad form to make these inseparable, so if anyone asks, I will upload one or both as individual .paks.
Alternate Versions (Nexus Mods):
- ModerateChangeVolume - the mod's weapon swap sound is closer to the original volume, but it is still softer and quicker. Made for RocklorD.
Installation:
Put pak1.pak into \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Quake 2\rerelease\baseq2\. If you already have a pak1.pak, pak2.pak, etc. increase the number by 1 until it is unique.

pak1.pak - Stygian Emperor's custom sound files, replacing the cyborg player's jump grunt (less harsh - a modulated recording of my own voice) and the player weapon switch noise (a softer, quicker "swoosh" sound).
This is intended for the Quake 2 Re-Release, but you can use the preview link above to download the replacement jump1.wav and put it in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Quake 2\baseq2\players\cyborg\ for the old Steam release. (The old release does not have a change.wav)
Weapon switch sound is nice, though much quieter than the rest of the sounds ingame.
Yeah that was intended; I was considering removing the change sound entirely but decided having a very subtle audio queue when a change was successfully triggered would still be a good idea with the new weapon switch method.
If you want, I can upload a version with the new sound at the same or similar volume to the normal one.
Thanks! Having more options is always nice :) If I'm to suggest anything I would go for something in between barely audible and normal sound level. Something like a subtle swoosh of air ;) I don't know, maybe a decibel or two more than now? But your call, I don't know if moddb allows uploading multiple file options on one addon though...
