Well, it's been a few weeks since I announced the mod's release. So I thought I'd share what's happening with TMoD's development. Firstly, I've been working hard to make the various areas of the mod feel more natural, more purposeful. Today, I designed these simple circular seats in the main area of the Vasya Building. I'm not very skilled at textures, so I just settled for sticking some leather on them, and rounding off the edges.
Below, you can see the entrance to the apartment building. As my skills have improved, I've gotten much better at designing basic geometry like this.
Vasya Server Room: Just a little something I whipped up yesterday afternoon in 3ds Max, before exporting it to Far Cry. Truth be told, I discovered how to 'inset' in Max yesterday, which makes creating the floors and ceilings of this room a hundred times easier.
I'm currently working with a composer, Yutah, on the music for the mod. (Well, he's doing the work, I'm doing my best to explain the moods I want the music to set.) I'm hoping to create a genuinely nice musical backdrop for the mod. In fact, I'm hoping my mod manages to be as good as his music.
What kind of mod is this? I'm asking myself that frequently. I've decided of late that I am trying to present the player with the same kind of experience they would have sneaking into someone's house in the middle of the night, or solving a strange puzzle. I want the player to feel as if they are stepping into an alien place, and working out how the place works on their own. That's why I've omitted all HUD features. The mod is literally an unexplained toy. The gameplay, I hope, will come in each person working out how the toy functions for themselves; the joy of discovery so often lost through fiddly interfaces and overly complicated puzzles which demand a FAQ to solve.
At the moment, I'm unsure if I'll be able to meet that June 10 release date. I'm constantly thinking of new features and improvements, and I'm also not willing to run myself ragged working on this mod day-in and day-out.
It looks interesting... definately will wait for release
