Scripted Chase Sequence - Tutorial

Welcome to the yet another tutorial for Mission Maker 1.7 - this time i'll show you how to make a cool, scripted chase involving enemy vehicles and vehicle obstacles. I'll show you:

  • How to make enemy shoot from drive-by
  • Carrec Paths
  • Truck barricade + carrec paths + timing

Video Tutorial:

I did a video tutorial, covering the points in this article, check it out:

Text Tutorial:

  • First, go to a location where would you like to start a chase
  • Teleport your character there, make a vehicle and teleport him to that vehicle
  • Then, do the same for enemies - create a car for enemies first and then put them near a car and then put them in the vehicle as passenger and a driver
  • To make drive-by work, you can put a "0 second dialogue" to bypass action limit. Action limit limits your actions for an objective to 1 action - so if you would like to put 2 actions for a character in 1 objective you wouldn't be able to do it - dialogue method bypasses it
  • Put action driveby for a passenger actor after bypassing the limit
  • Do carrec paths for enemies, make sure you direct your path to end near an alleyway to make a "surprise" later. Also, if you want to avoid car disappearance after putting scripted carrec - make sure when you arrive at the location you want to end the carrec to just stop for a 5, 6 seconds and not move. Car will then not dissappear
  • Put a big invisible checkpoint near the place where truck will appear. Make sure you make some resonable distance when you put this checkpoint - not too close to an alley. You can put in the checkpoint text "Follow the goons, don't lose them" or something like that
  • Then, start putting the truck in the alley. It shouldn't be visible for player so hide it from the plain sight
  • Put a driver there, and again - carrec path to "block" the player. Truck will act as a roadblock
  • After the carrec, you can put a dialogue for 2, 3 seconds. Make sure in the carrec, truck is stopped for a short period of time to make the "enemy car" dissapear like you lost it from the sight
  • Then you hide the enemy car, goons inside and make a objective - You lost them, follow their last trail and find the car.

That's how you can do a scripted car chase that looks dope, with some elements like Rockstar would put. I hope you liked it. Also, check out the video if you don't understand the text tutorial. If you want, in the next tutorial I can do an Audio Tutorial where I would teach you, how to put an audio on a certain objective or dialogue.
