Freeworlds: Tides of War is a fan built Star Wars total conversion mod for Digital Anvil's Freelancer game that was released several years ago. When fans began to make mods for Freelancer, one of the many things people were keen on seeing was a Freelancer mod based on the Star Wars universe developed by George Lucas. Freeworlds and Tides of War were the answer to this outcry. The development team of both mods have now joined forces to create an epic new Star Wars TC, Freeworlds: Tides of War.
Take a gander at the latest in the HUD improvement CheeseOnToast has been working on! Also, the latest version of the Supa is in the shot, too!!
Looks awesome, both the Supa and the HUD. Decided not to go with aurebesh symbols after all? I thought I remembered seeing a aurebesh HUD not too long ago.
As far as usability goes, that was a big zero, so we got rid of that icon set.
We can't assume everyone's familiar with the buttons.
Note however that those aren't the final icons, either.
I'd love to see some aurebesh somewhere in the HUD, that always looks sweet in Star Wars games.
Also the new HUD is looking awesome!
There was just one thing, but it just might be me, but I feel the hexagonal background in the bottom left and right windows seems a bit busy.
Awesome work though!
I also thought of something that might not be possible yet but its an idea. I was playing an ancient videogame the other day: Star Trek Starfleet Command, the original one. And it has a giant HUD that folds in and out onto the screen. A feature like that will be useful so the chat can be freed up for chatting. If possible it could contain buttons for carriers and autoturrets and speed control and other stuff that you guys have no doubt develpoed but haven't released yet. Maybe even radar...
The vast majority of our controls use keyboard shortcuts to maximize speed. If we need to display additional information, we have ways around that, even if they aren't perfect.
