November? Already? Boy, does time fly. Well it's about time for another news update! Like I hinted in the earlier news it's now time to take a look at some of Embermoor's features in motion.
Feature demo 1
The sizzling new video clip in the video gallery gives you a small taste of some of the features I now have implemented in the game - Things like the basic blade traps, health vial, breakable barrels and two weapons - the bar mace and the crossbow. Please note it's all work in progress (especially the weapon animations) but as always - critique is extremely welcome.
Also, if you haven't already noticed I updated the video gallery earlier this week with a short clip demonstrating the lava effect. Don't forget to check that out as well!
Images - In with the new, out with the old
In addition to the video material I added two screens to the image gallery. One shows the lava effect and the other one shows the enhanced crossbow in greater detail. Have a look!
Also, it might be noteworthy to mention that I did a bit cleaning in the image gallery and removed some old screenshots as I felt they no longer presented the game's current form. In the next update I aim to show you some of the new and improved environments I have been crafting for the game. When I eventually set up an official homepage for Embermoor the old images will be archived there so you can see how the game evolved.
Vote for embermoor!
The hunt for the hottest mod of 2010 is on. If you like what you have seen so far, vote for Embermoor!
I hope you enjoy the new media!
Best,
Eltempe
The blade trap is awesome, really good stuff. I was a bit vexed on how you aim with the crossbow though
There will be a nice custom crosshair helping you aim. I've still yet to customize the standard HL2 HUD so I just disabled it before recording. Thanks for the compliments! The blade trap was great fun to make.
I'd appreciate it if you could tell what program do you edit fonts with. I had a hard time finding a good one.
Very nice effects on the crossbow! Only thing that bothers me if the fact that you can see how the arrow is spawned for a second before it goes of.
Yes, I'm aware of that problem and I'll be sure to look into it :) Cheers for the compliments!
Excellent progress... looking good guys...
Thanks!
Im lovin it *duh da da da duh*
Me too! *Golden arches smile*
Heh, cheers! :D
As everyone has said before me, outstanding work being done here.
Embermoor earned my vote easily. Everything we've seen so far is just mind-blowingly well done. I have to ask even though I should know, but are you the only person involved in this project, Eltempe?
Yes, all the way from the beginning Embermoor has been my personal project I develop in my free time. It all started from my graduate thesis in the university (I wrote my thesis about the theory of level design in single-player FPS games). To support the thesis I created a short single player level to support the theoretical part of the thesis. After I graduated last spring the project just kept snowballing as I was more and more drawn into the world of level design and modding... and eventually the idea of making Embermoor a full blown mod was born.
I have been thinking of recruiting people to help me with the project (particularly with coding) but I still want to see how far I can go on my own. I'm really enjoying the learning experience :)
Thank you so much for the vote and support, it really means a lot!
Wow. I suggest putting that on the summary page, it adds its own sort of charm to the game knowing how it came about and how genuinely interested you are in really bringing the whole thing to life.
Beyond that, you are an inspiration to those of us who want to go it alone and Embermoor is proof that a one-man mod team can produce something beautiful.
