The Praharis are a community of people from the eastern Indian state of Odisha, primarily in the Kalinga region. They are a sub-caste of the Khandayats, who are known for their ancestral occupation as warriors. The term "Praharis" is derived from the Sanskrit word "prahar," meaning a time interval or shift.
The Praharis were traditionally soldiers who were responsible for guarding the forts and palaces of the kings of Odisha. They played a crucial role in the defense of the Kalinga region against foreign invaders.

The Praharis had a unique system of organization, which was based on shifts or "prahars." Each shift consisted of a group of Praharis who were responsible for guarding the fort or palace for a specific period. They would then be relieved by the next shift, which would take over the duty of guarding the fort.

The Praharis were known for their physical prowess, martial skills, and loyalty to their masters. They were skilled in various forms of combat, including sword fighting, archery, and wrestling. They were also trained in the use of various weapons, including spears, shields, and bows.

The Praharis had a strict code of conduct, which emphasized discipline, bravery, and loyalty. They were required to serve their masters faithfully, even at the cost of their own lives. They were also expected to maintain high levels of physical fitness and to be ready to defend their masters at all times.

The Praharis use the Khond Battle Axe which was used in Southern Odisha by the Khond Tribe. The Khond tribe of India has a long history of using the Khond Axe in warfare. The axe was used as a close-combat weapon, and its sharp blade made it a formidable tool in battle. The Khond people were known for their bravery and fighting skills, and the Khond Axe was an important symbol of their warrior culture.
