This mod was originally going to be for Half-Life 1, however over some time I have been considering moving it to source. There are a lot of reasons not to do this and many reasons that I should do so. I originally wanted to use many assets from Half-Life Opposing Force and make an epic mod from all those HL1 resources. However, I am not the best and experienced at using the GoldSrc engine. I've even struggled to find people who are experienced with it that would be willing to help.
Why is the mod moving to Source?
I want and have moved the mod to Source instead. This will be a lot easier for not only myself, but newly recruited members to help work on the mod. I have managed to assemble a small team right now of some very skilled and experienced Source modders. We so far have 2 concept artists, 1 Coder/Programmer, and 3 Mappers. This is a very positive lift to the development team that I critically needed in the first place. Also, there's a lot more great features we can implement into the mod using Source, which I personally think is a good move. I will also being using a lot of the content from Black Mesa
Moving to Source? What does this mean for so much of the content we've seen so far?
Almost all the content I've uploaded or produced will still find its way into the mod. However, some of the jungle and snow environments that I have shown and worked on may not make it into the final product. I myself am rather dissapointed about this, however I think this would also be a good move to help focus more on level design and environments more related to Area-51. I will plan to, eventually in the future, to work on making the jungle and snow chapters/levels and add them on as a mission pack. But don't get your hopes up too much about that for now.
What will we see in Area-51 with it being in Source?
As the protagonist, you'll be experiencing different environments such as cities, old abandon towns, laboratories, compounds, processing facilities and even Alien outposts. There is still so much work to be done. And even though this mod has been in development since 2012, it's still going to be worked on. It will not be cancelled right now, and hopefully not at all in the future. You'll be challenged in combat when up against soldiers, aliens and other threats, you're resources will be limited at times, so make the most of them. There is a lot of cool things that will be in this mod.
Will you ever put the mod on Steam Green light if it get's popular/successful?
At this rate, I am unsure. At the moment I doubt my mod will be as successful as a lot of other mods out there. This is a personal project that I wish to have fun with, and share with people who may wish to also experience the creativity and fun put into to it. If it is popular, I may consider Green light, and due to I am using resources from Black Mesa and possible other mods/games in the future, this will never be a paid product. It will always be free, and any future updates or mission packs for my mod will most definitely be free.
That's all the news I have for now. I'll be posting regular content and updates when I can. I would like to thank everyone who is tracking the mod, everyone who has shown their interest and support for the mod. It has really helped and it does mean a hell of a lot.
