For those of you who have been following the Apprehension story, you will know it has certianly been interesting. Apprehension was founded by Arron "Lilguy" Fillipo and friends. The mod took on a number of members and chugged along, until Lilguy was snapped up by Raven Software (hurrah!). First Parallax (a fellow coder) and now oXYnary (an artist) have stepped up to keep Apprehension development progressing.
In the past few months, oXYnary has filled out the team with a number of skilled modellers, concept artists, musicians, and new scripting talent. The Apprehension team is now starting to produce some spectacular art, not least of which is a new concept painting by Matt Waggle. His work (pictured below left) demonstrates Apprehension's unique organic look and feel. This piece dramatically captures the team dropship, the center of the war effort for each side, where each team strives to destroy the enemy dropship. You HAVE to click on this, the small pic just doesn't do it justice!
Also of note is our progress on the modelling front. Animatr has modeled our "Resource node" (we call it a Thorodine converter). This render is of a partially complete model placed next to a player to demonstrate scale. This structure collects resources, and also has a teleporter upgrade which allow players to get quickly around the battlefield.
Also of note in the Apprehension story is our use of modern, internet driven tools to improve our development. We now have a wiki you can visit to read our game design spec. We have Forums in which you can comment on our spec. We also make extensive use of SVN to manage our source, making life much easier for us as developers.
The Apprehension team is going exciting places, and if you like what you see, drop by and say hello!
