The Walking Dead.....Excellent TV Show....Excellent first game from Telltale Games!!
After playing the first released version of The Walking Dead Game, by Telltale Games, I was very pleasantly surprised that is was so engrossing, emotional as well as fun to play. that fisrt game chose to
focus on the emotional, and very human aspect of how it would FEEL to be in that situation.
This new game Developed by Terminal Reality, is very different.
This is a classic first-person shooter, which actually reminds me of playing older survival/horror games like the original Silent Hill for example. Of course The Walking Dead has much better character control and graphics, compared to those older games. But it has the FEEL of those games. The continuous feeling of suspense as you walk around every corner, knowing...hearing your enemy somewhere around you. Grabbing as many item as your inventory will allow, and getting the hell out of there!
It's nice to play something that has that old school feeling!!
Again, this is only our First Look at the game, so an indepth review will come at the end of the game.
One thing I will address at the moment though, is the obvious lack of time and effort that was put into the fighting/action controls.
I found myself getting really annoyed that the game really did not seem to pick up, the fact that the relevant buttons, to attack your enemies was being pressed. The time between the action being made
(ie player pressing button) and the character on-screen performing that action, seemed to be around a second or two, which is ridiculous....that's even if it picked up on it at all!!
I found myself having to make sure, by pressing the action button around 4 times, to every 1 hit, just incase he did not perform the action at all! Talk about stress levels, lol!
Anyway, so long as you plan out your course of action before jumping right in to a group of Walking Dead, you should be able to avoid them in groups.
One compensation they did make, was for just that....groups of them. Rather than having to take them down by swinging at them, you are given an opportunity to take them out in one hit, using an action version of what can only really be described as a quick time event.
Another aspect of this game is that we play as, and with characters we already know from the Fox TV Series. Which will probably be a bonus for fans of the Series?? Or not ?? Who Knows!
The game is fun though, and really does feel like old school survival horror, so I like it for that reason alone, with the bonus of it being The Waking Dead.
