Report RSS Ludum Dare Mini - 73 - No Submission

Announcement
When I set out on the most recent Ludum Dare mini jam I had hoped to complete 3 separate songs from scratch that could fit nicely into the simple arcade game fakeout that I started during the previous mini jam. Now that we are just days away from the deadline (and the next major jam), I think I'm going to give up on trying to officially submit anything. I wouldn't want my partial entry to distract from other's completed ones.

Even though I've decided to not do an official submission for the mini jam, a lot came out of this time. The most practical achievements would be the additions to the engine that now allow sounds to be played by a game, and convenience methods for importing 8-bit WAV files. Outside of those functional improvements, I was able to spend more time then ever before getting familiar with playing and recording music.

I am a disappointed that I wasn't able to complete my goal of 3 songs created and embedded within fakeout, but seeing as I'm no musician maybe that was too much to hope for. As a whole I definitely underestimated the effort it takes to complete such a task. After listening to a bunch of 8-bit music from the original game boy, where most tracks were simple 30 second loops, I was quite convinced I could do the same will little trouble. Problem is that if a song is going to be that short, all of it has to be really catchy.

+1 respect to all of you game musicians out there.

Plans
Now that I'm not focusing purely on writing music, I'd like to refocus on the upcoming Ludum Dare jam. It will certainly be a relief to get back into writing code after spending so long away from it. I just hope that the theme clicks with my mind so that I don't make a complete fool of myself during the first major jam I participate in. *fingers crossed*

Good luck to any of you developers/artists who are also planning on joining the jam this weekend. I look forward to your creations.

As always thanks for checking in. I hope all of you journeys are progressing well.
